Just a guess, but my gut says there is about 50/50 chance Odunze is gone before #9. The interesting discussion is what to do in that case? Take a DE or trade down for JPJ or Thomas. That is where I am at.
If Odunze is gone hopefully a team wants to trade up for a QB or maybe one of the tackles. I'd be cool trading down and drafting Thomas Jr or Adonai Mitchell after that. And if we could get a 2nd rounder in a trade down I'd be cool if Poles drafted Latu and then a receiver with that second round pick. Remember the name Javon Baker boys...kid is gonna be a good one.
I know you are hot on getting WR in first round. There are enough good WRs in this draft that I am very confident that the overall offense would be better in trade down for JPJ in first round and WR in second round rather than just trade down for WR in first round.
Those three are the "can't pass up" guys for me. They are just too good of prospects to pass on for a measly extra 3rd round pick IMO.* If all 3 are gone, yeah I really hope we can move down a bit. I can come up with a bunch of plausible scenarios there which I hope won't be necessary.
*You would have to make a big move down to get a 2nd. Late teens at minimum.
All three of your guys go before #9, and Poles has to decide between DE or try to trade down. That is the most interesting scenario.
Yes, that's the scenario with the most wildcards in it that fans and writers love to mock draft over. Staying at #9 and taking your blue chip guy who falls is "boring" by comparison. So no one wants to talk about it. But I'd say there's a 50-50 chance one of them falls to 9. If 4 QBs go early, its 80-20 that one falls.
If all are off the board, I honestly don't know what Poles does. I suppose I'd try to trade back a few spots to get an extra 3rd (which isn't a big deal) and take the best DL player. Kind of need a QB still there that someone wants to get a trade partner o/w you are stuck at 9 and none of these D players truly blow me away.
They may end up being great picks but as prospects right now they all have some issues. Teams all have Latu's full medical evals and that should be key. He's probably the best pure pass rusher for us IF they're comfortable with his medicals. We fans have no way to know how concerning or unconcerning his medical evaluation is.

To get a 2nd round pick, we are gonna have to trade WAY down. Probably to the 20s. At least to the late teens.
Might be tough trying to find a willing partner there.

We'll agree to disagree, but who knows what Poles thinks. I think the biggest needs on the team right now are edge rusher and receiver. I can draft a guy like Sedrick Van Pran in the 3rd or 4th and develop him for a year at center.

Exactly, except for me, add 3T to that list. Behind WR and DE

Unless the impossible happens and a QB is sitting at the #9. Then you get a good auction going. Would that not be the cats ass?

Not really unless the blue chip players are off the board. Even so, I think some Bears fans are expecting a "haul" that isn't going to happen unlike last year.
Trading the #9 pick is way less valuable that trading the #1 pick.

TBH, I hope we just stick at 9 and Rome.
One of the three receivers would be optimal but I gotta admit. I am intrigued with Bowers and what Waldren can do with him.
It's pretty much a given that the PFF simulator is the most popular one and they are tracking fan selections. Now I have no idea if any of those "fans" are actual GMs but I have read scouts and pro personnel execs are using it. The closer we get to the actual draft, the more solidified the results become, especially if you remove the random slider.
Consistently now, these are how the draft shakes out for the top 8 (just go ahead and assume The Bears and The Commanders are taking QBs):
I don't think Poles isn't getting one of the Top 3 WRs in this draft. 1, because he doesn't have the capital and 2, none of those teams are going to let him in. His options are either a DL/DE (likely Turner) or trade down. And he would have to drop down into the mid-20s (think Jacksonville or Tampa Bay) to get teams who value the "9" pick as worthy of giving up their 2nd rounder. If he does trade out and target a WR, I think we're talking about Brian Thomas or Adonai Mitchell, because there's a substantial fall-off after those two. Meeting with Odunze is just good business because it's the draft and you never know. Ironically, I think the WR packing was completed when The Chargers trade Keenan Allen to The Bears, because that made WR their #1 priority.
To me, the only move that could alter this is what The Patriots do. They've got a new HC, they do need a QB and they may not value MHJ as much as we thing they (or everyone) should do.

Well, it's a mock so I don't put much stock in it, but if that's the case, looks like the top DE or a trade down. I think Bowers would still be there, but I view him as a 4th WR so maybe teams do also. Also, I don't see less than 3 QBs being chosen before us. If you mock what I said, does it automatically become a mock? Crap.... I might have done my first mock....
