I would agree. In fact, I'd say he should throw for 3500 even if we don't draft RO. My only hesitancy is that Keenan Allen misses time every season and we have nothing behind him thanks to missing on Claypool, Velus, and (probably) Scott.
Oh and if Waldron can squeeze 3700 yards out of Geno Smith, he better be able to do that with Williams too. Bears already have 4 legit pass catchers. Its indulgent I admit, but I want a 5th.
Just a guess, but my gut says there is about 50/50 chance Odunze is gone before #9. The interesting discussion is what to do in that case? Take a DE or trade down for JPJ or Thomas. That is where I am at.
Nabors Odunze Alt
Those three are the "can't pass up" guys for me. They are just too good of prospects to pass on for a measly extra 3rd round pick IMO.* If all 3 are gone, yeah I really hope we can move down a bit. I can come up with a bunch of plausible scenarios there which I hope won't be necessary.
*You would have to make a big move down to get a 2nd. Late teens at minimum.

It will sure be interesting to watch it all happen. As one guy put it today (I think on the Score) what if all 8 picks are offense and the Bears can pick the #1 overall defensive player in the ENTIRE draft class? Do you trade down, or take that guy? As much as I want an offense player taken, and I do, hey it would be mighty tempting to take an elite, perennial All-Pro DL guy that fell to us there. In fact it could end up being a bigtime mistake to pass over that kind of player. It's not like we will have that opportunity for a number of years after this year.

That's the $64,000 question right now.
If the top 8 all go to offense, who the hell is gonna want to trade up with 4 QBs gone? We may be stuck drafting at #9 like it or not. And the top D guys in this draft just don't seem to be as "high floor" as the top O guys.

All three of your guys go before #9, and Poles has to decide between DE or try to trade down. That is the most interesting scenario.
You need to get ahead of Steelers and Cowboys, but I figure you’d have a very good chance of getting JPJ with a trade down to 16-19. That’s a reasonable overpay that probably would not cause butkus a heart attack.
And thank you for that, David. Let Halas Hall know about this so we don't lose a good poster here. We don't have an unlimited supply of good posters... butkus3595 is one
LOL, I appreciate you brotha! Yeah, please, someone let Poles know...I'm not trying to make an early exit!
You said like 3 different things in 3 different posts. I have said that I would try to trade down from 9 if the big 3 receivers are not there. I still believe it is important to draft a receiver, especially in this very loaded receiver draft.
Your second comment said that basically after the big 3 these guys are all the same, to which I responded "that is not true". There are differences. I never said anything about taking a lower ranked receiver at 9. Not once.
I still question what mocks you're looking at that have the 8th ranked receiver available in the 3rd round. Just for an example, The Athletics latest mock draft has 8 receivers going in the first 44 picks. Field Yates latest mock draft on ESPN has FOURTEEN receivers going in the first 2 rounds!! PFF's latest 1 round mock has 7 receivers going in the first round, Brad Spielberger's latest 1 round mock has 8 receivers going in the first round, and Trevor Siekama's lastest 3 round mock on PFF has 21 receivers going in the first 3 rounds!!!
So please tell me which mocks you are reading that actually have the 8th ranked receiver available in the 3rd round??!!!
Okay, you can’t get #8 in 3rd round. The first time you mentioned that, I said I am not drafting a WR at #9 who is mocked in the second or third round. That is the same reason I don’t draft JPJ at #9 if I can trade down lower in the first round and probably still get him. Same applies to Thomas.
incidentally, I looked up #8 on the consensus big board. It is Coleman, and he goes #49. Poles would have to be crazy to draft him #9.
Who said anything about drafting the #8 receiver at 9? I mean talk about making ridiculous leaps! If anything it would be the #4 receiver at 9...thats not a crazy reach cause that #4 receiver is going to go a few picks later. But again, I said NUMEROUS TIMES I would try and trade down if I could.
Odunze will probably be there at #9, but Poles may go DE anyway. That would not surprise me at all.
If so, its a complete no-brainer decision. Run to the podium. I'd hang up on anyone calling to trade. Bye-Bye
Keenan Allen is probably here for 2 years max and he's not durable. He is almost certainly going to miss 3-6 games every season. Bears have nothing at WR3 unless you magically believe Tyler Scott is going to grow new hands or Velus isn't going to suck yet again for a 3rd season.
I think you add Caleb and Rome to what we already have and the Bears finally have a 4000 yard passer. Only team in entire league to never have had one.
I agree with everything you just said 1 million%!!!!
And thank you for that, David. Let Halas Hall know about this so we don't lose a good poster here. We don't have an unlimited supply of good posters... butkus3595 is one
Yeah, I wouldn’t want to lose my sparring partner!
LOL just think how bored you'd be without me! I love the back and forth we get going.

If Odunze is gone hopefully a team wants to trade up for a QB or maybe one of the tackles. I'd be cool trading down and drafting Thomas Jr or Adonai Mitchell after that. And if we could get a 2nd rounder in a trade down I'd be cool if Poles drafted Latu and then a receiver with that second round pick. Remember the name Javon Baker boys...kid is gonna be a good one.
