Regarding the running game importance, I don't think it is so much about the yardage totals that matters most. Although you do want a healthy balance. But what I like to see is a team that CAN run the ball as needed. What I mean is that it is a legit effective weapon when you need to move the chains in short yardage situations, or you're on that 1-yard line and nee to punch the ball in for a score... and in general the opposing defense has to respect that you CAN run anytime effectively. That is a bit different than just stacking a ton of run yards a season. To me it is anyway.
Brax is already very good and getting better. I don’t want Alt. JPJ would make the OL stronger than adding Alt, and if Odunze is gone before #9, I am trading down to 16-19 to get JPJ (or Thomas if JPJ is gone).
If you want to replace Brax, you can trade down and get Fautanu who is nearly as good as Alt. Seahawks fans really like him at #16. Equal or better than Alt in all combine stats.
Alt is a giant over 6'8" over 320 lbs. Gave up only 4 sacks in collegiate career. Graded out as the best Tackle in 2023.
Alt is definitely special and the best OL in this draft.

That’s great, but we don’t need a LT. We need a center or 3-tech or WR. Anyway, it’s a pointless conversation, because there are teams ahead of Bears who actually do need a LT, and one of them will take Alt. I hope they do.

That’s important, but it’s also important to avoid 3rd-and-long situation.
I beg to differ. If that were true, than guys like Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Josh Jacobs would be winning super bowls regularly instead of guys like Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes.
And Waldron is calling plays on offense now. Bears need to be passing the ball a lot more this year.
PS: If that were true, why is Justin Fields viewed as a backup QB only?
Nobody is arguing that a super star running back wins Super Bowl. Bears will be passing the ball. The best scoring offenses have a balanced attack with 6000+ total yards. I went through this with motm 100 times. It is a statistical fact.
With 4500+ of those yards being passing.
Sorry, that isn't "balanced". That's 3:1 passing minimum.
Regardless, my larger point is that the Bears under Poles need to turn the page on their prior ways. I'm sick of "running the ball and playing good defense". That sounds really nice but doesn't win enough. We have been doing that for decades. It hasn't worked.
Most SBs are won by teams that excel at passing. Way more than those that "are balanced".

Every team has more passing yards than rushing yards. The teams scoring 26+ ppg nearly all have 2,000+ rushing yards and 6,000+ total yards. That’s what I mean by a balanced offense.

Well, we lost our 3T and only have one good DE, I don't think we need to worry about playing good defense. I'm not sure we can right now
Keep in mind, Bears have been one of the worst teams since 2010. The only franchise who hasn't had a 4k+ passing QB.
Do we keep this 1980's mindset of Running the ball with a great defense work or do we become more of a pass happy team? I rather try something different.
We won the division once since 2011 and that's 2018.
Let's give Williams all the tools needed for him to be great. Let him be our first 4k passer.
+1 As much as I am all about the offense, I figure you don't reach with that #9. If the best guy is a blue chip D guy, then you pick the best player.
Having said that, my best hope is that Odunze reaches us. If so, yes you take him without looking back.
The Bears have sucked for decades not only at drafting QBs, but also at drafting WRs. Alshon Jeffery has been the best WR we have drafted in 20 years and he was only good for a couple seasons. It's no wonder why we suck so bad at pass offense.
I have heard rumors recently that the Giants might like Odunze over Nabors. Long shot but I would love to get Nabors.

That is the kind of RB likes as well. The one that pounds it and refuses to go down.
