We are all fed up with the QB debates of the last 2 months. Time to move on--Williams will be the pick at #1 and he will be the starting QB.
The only interesting part of this Bears draft is the #9 pick.
Do they stay or trade? If the trade, how far down and who with? Do they target WR? OL? DL?
More I am reading about it, the more it looks like 4 QBs will go in the top-8. MHJ and Nabors are locks for the top-8 too.
If true, that means a BLUE CHIP PLAYER is gonna land in the Bears lap at #9.
Odunze Alt Turner
One of them is guaranteed to reach 9 under the above scenario. If I'm Ryan Poles, I'm sticking at #9 and taking whichever blue chip falls to me.
I'd add Bowers in there as a blue player. 9 is rich for a TE, but the guy is supposed to be special. But so far, not generational. All it's going to take is one giddy writer to promote him to generational though

I'm dubious about Bowers. Remember when Pitt was going to change NFL OFFs when he came out and the Falcons took him? The promised TEs to me are fool's gold. I'd pass on Bowers at 9. Don't know how low he would have to drop for me to draft him.

I'm beginning to think that all 3 of the top QBs will be gone and all 3 of the top WRs will be gone by pick 7 or 8.
Personally, I'd prefer OL help above a DE/Edge. With a rookie QB, we need to make sure that he gets a relatively clean pocket on 80% - 90% of his passing plays. Based on all the rankings I've seen, there could be some really tasty QR prospects as deep as the 3rd round this year.

Poles has talked about "blue (chip) players" several times. The Bears need more of them. Teams that go on deep runs and win SBs tend to have a bunch of them.
More and more I am convinced Bears need to stay at #9 and take a 2nd (after Caleb) blue-chip-player in this draft. You would only get an extra 3rd by trading down to the teens any way. It would take a big move down to the 20s to get a 2nd. And this draft is widely viewed as talent-rich up top but very thin. It's been called "a 3-round draft" because so many underclassmen stayed in school another year.
So, if indeed 4 QBs go early as seems likely, Bears are sitting pretty and virtually assured of having either Odunze, the #1 LT, or the #1 Edge fall right into their lap.
It all comes down to whether Poles feels there are more blue-chip players out there than that. Otherwise, just stay at #9 and take your guy.

Yeah for me Bowers isn't in that same category. He's whatever is one step down from "blue chip" (BC).
To me, BC is A) premium position, B) high ceiling and, C) HIGH FLOOR. I admit, I strongly favor HIGH FLOOR players high in the draft. To me that extra layer of bust protection is well worth the cost of not getting an extra 3rd rounder on a trade-down.
Alt, Turner, and Odunze are BCs to me. All play premium positions, have elite potential, and all are low-bust-risk. IOW, even if they don't full reach their ceiling, they are likely to still be good players and solid starters.
I just viscerally despise shooting for the moon in the early draft and missing which is why I was happy with Darnell Wright over Jalen Carter last draft. You are kinda stuck at QB cuz its so binary with that position but everywhere else I always favor the higher floor option(s).

I guess that would be a red chip player. Unless blue means Light Blue, but then why not grab a Brown Chip?
White = $1
Red = $5
Blue = $10
Gray = $20
Green = $25
Orange = $50
Black = $100
Pink = $250
Purple = $500
Yellow = $1,000
Light Blue = $2,000
Brown = $5,000
(I know, poker chips are different than sports...)

We follow UGA football as our son and daughter-in-law went there and have season seats. Bowers is special (a BC player) and while he’ll probably be there at 9, I prefer Alt and Odunze as preferred draft options.

I know. But what if Poles thinks there are blue players further down that he has identified? He might try and be the smartest guy in the room and trade down, get more picks and still get his diamond in the rough. I hope he just takes his pick at none but all we can do is wait and see

I prefer Odunze, but see Bowers as the fourth special WR so I’d go with him. I think the line is Ok. So it would be a choice of improving the line or filling a receiving threat for me. I see Allen as gone after next year
