Brax is already very good and getting better. I don’t want Alt. JPJ would make the OL stronger than adding Alt, and if Odunze is gone before #9, I am trading down to 16-19 to get JPJ (or Thomas if JPJ is gone).
If you want to replace Brax, you can trade down and get Fautanu who is nearly as good as Alt. Seahawks fans really like him at #16. Equal or better than Alt in all combine stats.
Its a deep draft at OT but everything I'm seeing says Alt >> Everyone Else
If he's there, hard to pass on a rookie LT like him. His ceiling is way higher than Brax's whom you could keep as a swing or trade for a pick.
I also gag on the idea of drafting a non-premium position in the top-20.
Alt is not far better than Fautanu. Fautanu is more athletic, better against speed rushers, not as good with hands, more versatile (can play anywhere on the line).
An All Pro center is a premium value. JPJ would elevate the Bears running game to an even higher level. With Brax holding down LT just fine, I am confident that JPJ adds more to this offense than Alt would. I am hard pass on Alt, considering the possible alternatives (Odunze and JPJ). Anyway, it’s all a moot discussion, because Alt will be gone before #9.

My God, I hope the Bears are moving on from this kind of thinking. Its a PASSING LEAGUE. The running game is a cherry on top of the sundae at best. Running teams and running QBs don't win SBs. This is outdated thinking from the 1980s. WHO CARES?
I don't give a rats ass about the running game (other than it not being completely terrible).
You are right that Alt probably won't get past Tennessee at #7 but explain to me why there's no chance he falls to us but yet somehow at the same time he's no better than Fauntanu? Contradiction in terms.
Alt is wayyyyy better. He has a multi-All-Pro ceiling which is why he will go quick.

You need both a running and passing game, you really do. Some teams have a good passing D but not as good a running D so you can advantage of it. Plus the passing game works better with a running game

You had better hope Flus gets fired, because as long as he’s the coach, we are going to run the ball. A great running games forces defenses to load up the box to stop the run, which opens up more passing lanes. It also allows you to control the clock and wear down the defense for the 4Q. “Run the ball and stop the run” is still fundamental to winning games, and more than a cherry on a sundae.
Fautanu will be the second tackle off the board and not long after Alt. He was high school teammate of Caleb Williams.

You need both.
But you need one WAY MORE than the other.
Bears lead the league in rushing in 2022 and finished dead last in draft order. Rushing offense pales in comparison to passing offense -- a lesson the Chicago Bears are decades behind the curve in learning.

I beg to differ. If that were true, than guys like Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Josh Jacobs would be winning super bowls regularly instead of guys like Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes.
And Waldron is calling plays on offense now. Bears need to be passing the ball a lot more this year.
PS: If that were true, why is Justin Fields viewed as a backup QB only?

I think that trading down form #9 might be the way to go assuming that one of the premier WRs, OTs or DE/Edge prospects are all gone at #9 on April 25. I wouldn't argue that JP is better than Alt. Just that trading down for JPJ is one of many "Plan B" options that Poles may have in the works.
As far as JPJ being a lopsided pick in terms of running vs passing, I don't believe that while playing guard or center at Oregon (basically the 2022 and 2023 seasons), JP allowed more than 1 sack and 1 hit as well as less than 10 hurries. So, I think he will probably work out pretty well in either the passing or running plays in the offense.
I can find lots of reference to most of these stats on social media (like X and YT) but I don't see any free sites that have the more advanced individual blocking stats. I'd appreciate a heads-up on one if anyone knows.

Nobody is arguing that a super star running back wins Super Bowl. Bears will be passing the ball. The best scoring offenses have a balanced attack with 6000+ total yards. I went through this with motm 100 times. It is a statistical fact.

More I read, more I am convinced that Odunze should be the #1 target at 9 by far.
The Edges in this class just don't seem like "the total package". All have notable weaknesses--in Latu's case, a serious medical concern.
So my plan right now would be:
Plan A - Odunze Plan B - Alt Plan C - trade down
If you really want a defensive player, feels like you can get Verse, Latu, or Murphy in the mid-1st. Or even a different WR.
Odunze and Alt feel like the two true "Top-10 Talents" I can't pass on at #9. Everyone else, I can see a trade down coming.

Alt is a giant over 6'8" over 320 lbs. Gave up only 4 sacks in collegiate career. Graded out as the best Tackle in 2023.
