..... Coaching was ABYSMAL!! Absolutely hated most of the play calling and if I see one more wide receiver screen I might lose my mind!!! Fields passes average 2.7 yards beyond the LOS last night. Thats inexcusable!! I know Minny loves to blitz, but you don't make them pay when every pass goes laterally. Take some friggen shots down the field!!! Just scared coaching in my opinion and it put the players in bad positions. I still maintain Fields is a much better QB with a play caller that has a clue and some balls......
I can't believe that after Nagy (whose two favorite plays were WR screen and WR hitches 4 yards down field) we are still stuck with an OC who believes WR screens are "The Thing." I thought Nagy called to many WR screens. Getsy must have found Nagy's old playbook in a desk and thought it was a gift from the football gods.
Went “Other” as our kicker scored all the points. Getsy is absolutely horrible and while I’m still in on keeping Poles, if Getsy appears to be staying , then clean house and get rid of them all.

Thank the lord that there's no more of Tice's pixie dust left. I just don' t get Getsy. How can anyone associated with the NFL think WR screens work as a main staple of your gameplan? an occasional (like 2-3 times a game) distraction at specific times to beat certain weaknesses in the D sure, but not your main weapon of attack. You basically have 3 plays to get 10 yards. How you do that with 2-yard plays (with a lot of -2 yard plays) I can't fathom. Same thing with consistently running up the middle into a packed box. Stupid stupid stupid. Getsy should have been fired long ago.
Flus does have the D playing better, but is that cuz Williams is gone, we have Sweat now, our guys are healthier or is it Flus? Not firing Getsy is really my biggest complaint against Flus. Although is Flius responsible for the soft coverages and timid gameplans? I still say Flus and the entire coaching staff need to go. ASAP. Getsy yesterday.
I gave the game ball to the entire D. They played well and it's not easy to hold any team to 10 points. Even with a 3rd string QB.
One last thing. The Refs. The entire referee squad needs to be overhauled. I understand the rules can be complex and open to interpretation and that the game is fast, but a guy clearly walking off the field with his back to the other team taking off a broken helmet is not taunting. I would say most of the celebrations we see ARE taunting.
The defense did play their hearts out. It was encouraging to see the team NOT give up and persevere to win. Clearly, the offense is lacking talent. We can "pretend" and kid ourselves that these offense guys are somehow not as bad as they look. But I think that is being in denial of the truth. The unit needs 2024 to upgrade the O roster talent. Until that happens we are not very good on offense. Yes, the play-calling needs to be better. Yes, Getsy is not good. But that doesn't mean we don't ALSO have a talent issue on offense.
The good news is that the Bears have the draft and cap $$$ to fix the offense in 2024.
... and yes, Fields needs to do a better job of protecting the football.
My takeaways were a bit different.
On Defense, a lot of positives are happening. Dexter is starting to come on and that's huge. Sweat is already looking like the great trade that the Claypool deal was definitely not. Secondary was taking the ball away like crazy and could easily have had 6 picks. It was against a backup QB missing his best weapon but the defense balled out, no question.
On Offense, it's a very different story. Yes, obviously we need more talent. That goes without saying. But I can't get over just how bad this coaching staff is. Look at the game's pass chart if you don't believe me, JABF. There's no way a better coaching staff doesn't get WAY MORE out of this roster. Getsy only knows screens and he only calls screens, even after they have been blown up 3 of the last 4 attempts. He is beyond terrible.
Mooney has been Flus'd right out of the offense the last 2 seasons. Kmet seems to play well every 1st half and then disappear every 2nd half as Getsy turtles up. Fields flaws are obvious to see but we have no way to evaluate what his ceiling could be with this 18th century offense. The whole point of this season was to evaluate the QB thoroughly and we can't do that cuz Getsy won't let him throw downfield. I don't care if he throws 17 picks in a row -- I wanted to know what he could and couldn't do and we can't see that since Getsy is more horizontal than a hooker in a mining camp.
I HATE THESE GUYS. And I hate that they seem to squeeze out a fugly, dirty, unsatisfying win every time on the cusp of a bye/mini-bye when otherwise they'd be fired the next day.
Did you see Poles in the booth? He looked utterly flummoxed that the offense could be so repetitive, predictable, and unimaginative.
My eyes were bleeding watching that clown college of an offense. They should have fired these guys in October so at least you could get a half-season of proper evaluation of what Fields would look like in a real offense. Don't tell me it can't be done because Buffalo and Pittsburgh did it just recently.
And even though I don't think Poles is in danger, he hired these guys and he owns their ineptitude.

Need Harrison, jr.,a good slot receiver to replace Mooney, and a good center. That’s my shopping list if going with Fields.
On the other hand, if you are saying the missing talent on offense includes QB, then we’re saying Williams, Maye, or seems to have a higher ceiling than Fields.

Two things are true at the same time. We need more O quality, especially 1 more WR and C, QB is still on the fence... AND we need much better coaches, especially OC. We need a couple quality players, but we need MUCH better coaching.
Good coach wouldve brought this same roster to a 2+ scores W yesterday.
This ^^^^
1000 times THIS
Only Ric could watch that game and think that the primary problem is "a bad roster". Any competent OC would have blown the Vikings out last night. We scored only 3 points off 4 takeaways and that is really hard to do.
This roster has adequate talent to be a middle-of-the-road offense with a competent coaching staff. The RBs are very good. DJ Moore is elite. Kmet is a top-10 TE. Darnell Mooney is a solid #3 WR (when he's not Glus'd into oblivion by these idiots).
With all that, all Getsy can do is run horizontal screens asking his two smallest offensive players (Scott & Moon) to block it up. Can anything be more moronic?
