12-10. How we won this game, I dont know. First win by a team not scoring a TD in entire season. It was all D. D was pretty good to awesome all over and during the whole game.
O was pretty good at the very beginning, esp Fields and Kmet, but in the second q it just vanished. Flashes from Johnson and Moore. It is clear Getsy doesnt trust Fields, at all. And then Fields forces it, and makes stupid mistakes. Fumbles were very rough. Its also like coaches are trying to put him in worst situations, hard to understand. With better coaching, this O would play way better.
Im not sure what to think about this W, as it compromises our draft position, but its still beautiful to win in Minny, finally. And against horrible officials, that Gordon call was a pretty sad sight.
It was a joy to watch our D, guys played their hearts out. Each line was very very good and with young guns over there, this makes my heart warm. Need to extend JJ, and we can clearly see the Sweat effect. But, and its a big but, it was against Dobbs.
The defense did play their hearts out. It was encouraging to see the team NOT give up and persevere to win. Clearly, the offense is lacking talent. We can "pretend" and kid ourselves that these offense guys are somehow not as bad as they look. But I think that is being in denial of the truth. The unit needs 2024 to upgrade the O roster talent. Until that happens we are not very good on offense. Yes, the play-calling needs to be better. Yes, Getsy is not good. But that doesn't mean we don't ALSO have a talent issue on offense.
The good news is that the Bears have the draft and cap $$$ to fix the offense in 2024.
... and yes, Fields needs to do a better job of protecting the football.

Two things are true at the same time. We need more O quality, especially 1 more WR and C, QB is still on the fence... AND we need much better coaches, especially OC. We need a couple quality players, but we need MUCH better coaching.
Good coach wouldve brought this same roster to a 2+ scores W yesterday.

+1 And as Whisky Beer Bob pointed out in another post, the team is making too many mistakes in games. It's a lot of things (mistakes) that are hurting the team now. That certainly needs to be cleaned up. It's not like it is one unit or one player. It is a lot of guys contributing to these struggles. But I agree with you that two things can be true at the same time in regards to the Bears here. Coaching on offense is just plain bad. The D looked really solid though... gotta credit Eberflus for that. I was a heavy critic of him and his defense earlier... but I gotta admit he has done a great job with that unit. The offense though is so bad. The WR talent is non-existent outside of DJ Moore.

I disagree, Mooney is a quality WR2, more probably WR3. His blocking is also outstanding, but these guy dont know what to do with him, there are ways for him to help. Kmet is clearly a starting TE in this league, although he is missing that burst to be elite, but they only use him for short periods. Why? To keep it short, these coaches on O are clueless
I went "Other" to throw Eberflus a bone. He has the D playing pretty well right now. Granted he has some responsibility over the inept offense, but they won last night because of the entire defense and he's the man in charge on that side of the ball.
I picked the defense, but how doesn't Cairo get a nod here? He accounted for ALL our points! Coaching was ABYSMAL!! Absolutely hated most of the play calling and if I see one more wide receiver screen I might lose my mind!!! Fields passes average 2.7 yards beyond the LOS last night. Thats inexcusable!! I know Minny loves to blitz, but you don't make them pay when every pass goes laterally. Take some friggen shots down the field!!! Just scared coaching in my opinion and it put the players in bad positions. I still maintain Fields is a much better QB with a play caller that has a clue and some balls.
Defense has been playing much better, and you can see the impact that Sweat is having on this d-line. He is truly a multiplier as Poles said. Nice to see Dexter continue to flash, and Edwards has been awesome all season. Having said that, again, Flus coaching scared at the end almost cost this team a win.
Thank God for DJ Moore...lets get MHJr lined up across from him next year with a play caller who is good beyond the 10 plays they script during the week and I think this offense takes off.
You give best NFL roster to Flus and doesnt Getsyt and they dont reach playoff, not even wildcard.
Getsy doesn't seem to realize that WR screens only work for real NFL offenses because the CBs have to respect the med-deep passing game. When the CB doesn't have to worry about Mooney/Moore heading downfield at the snap they can literally play press coverage every single down.
For example, THill or DAdams get 3-4 screens a game because the CBs need to give them 5-7 yards of cushion. But for the Bears, once the game moves into 3rd-4th quarter the other team's DEF stops giving the cushion. The WR screen is a play that builds off others and can't be used in a vacuum or as a staple of an OFF.
Where were the play-action passes, jet sweeps or anything else designed to slow down the pass rush?
Flus doesn't get that much credit from me (I'm grumpy and there is no more coffee in the breakroom) because Dobbs is just a guy and a NFL DEF should never lose to just a guy. A negative in my book was the TD drive. Doesn't really matter how well they played up to that point or that the OFF couldn't put the game away. When the Safeties are playing 4 yards deep in the EZ when the ball is just outside the 10 yardline AND backing up at the snap....thats a horrible scheme and bad coaching. The announcers wanted sooooo bad to give Hockenson credit for "freezing" Jackson with his route and making Jackson stay back that they forget something. Even if Jackson came up, there is literally no room for Hockenson to run behind him. Instead the scheme calls for Jackson to keep everything in front of him at all time, even if it means playing on the back endline of the EZ (which is funny because....against the Lions and playing a prevent DEF Jackson let the WR get behind him for a 31 yard score.)
(all the above is subject to change once the all-22 comes out and my hot takes are exposed as trash.)
