And I think Belicheck lasts 2 seasons after Brady retires before retiring himself. He'll go 8-8 and then 6-10 with a non-Brady QB.
When he didn't have Brady this year he never missed a beat. They went 3-1.
Yep and when Brady came back they kept winning. But I don't think the 3-1 pace would have been sustainable without Brady. OK, maybe he lasts 3 years past Brady..how about 10-6,-8-8, 7-9 before Belichick retires? Or they retire together. Or I'm wrong.

+1 Actually I think you hit it. He may just retire when Brady retires. If he doesn't, then I'll bet he stays a couple years just to try and prove he can win without Brady. LOL, who knows, right? :-)
+1 It boils down to supply and demand. Top-tier quarterbacks are few. Yet every team wants one. It's basic economics 101 at play here. Teams drive up the draft price to crazy heights. QB's are over-drafted every single year. It's what teams do. Over and over and over again you see teams pass-over incredible players to draft a bust QB - or at the very least a mediocre QB. The players passed over, are often players who go on to have stellar careers, even All-Pro and Hall of Fame careers for some.
The stupid teams that do this, might as well take that 1st round draft pick and flush it down the toilet for all the good it does them.
Supply and demand. Teams being stupid, over-drafting QB's. It's what many teams do. I notice you don't see Bill Belichick doing this. Brady out, he just trots out another guy (not a first round QB) and keeps on winning. Belichick builds the TEAM, rather than doing the Browns thing drafting a small army of 1st round QBs. He wins. When Brady hangs up his career, Belichick won't miss a beat. I dead-bang guarantee you he will go on winning, and winning super bowls as long as he coaches in the NFL.
Or, do teams recognize that if you find that franchise QB you don't have to draft one again for 10-12 years add to that the simple fact that QB is the most important position on the team. Belichick isn't the best example. He doesn't have to draft first round QBs he already has one. He can take chances and draft a QB later knowing he has the GOAT already. Better example would be the Packers, who had their own GOAT yet still used a low first round pick on a QB and now have another GOAT.

I honestly think that a lot of QBs can succeed on the Patriots. I've seen Cassel and Garoppolo do well when starting and I think it all has to do with the system. I guarantee Cutler, Hoyer or Barkley could start for them and they'd still have a winning team. Belichik knows how to coach and game plan around what he has. His strategy changes each game depending on which team they are playing and the personnel he has to work with.
When they didn't have great WRs but had two great TEs they ran double TE sets all the time. When Gronk is hurt the play calling changes a lot. Some games they run a lot and they use different RBs. Some games they pass a lot. Their defense is always in the top half of the NFL. These are all keys to being successful.
Wtf is with all this quantifying ? QB is most important that's for sure , but NO team wins w/o alot of great players on both sides of the ball . Bears didn't win sht till they were good all over the place ... same with the Pats , Cowboys , Steelers , Redskins , Seahawks etc etc etc .
You can even win ( if ur good all over the place ) with a "game-manager' like Dilfer - but it's easier when ur QB is top notch .
What if Goff Ends up as a HoF QB and the Rams don't take him? They'd look like the fools

Rather I like the players or not doesn't change the fact these players are having a bright future for their team.
Point is going for QB first doesn't always help your team. Build around your QB then draft him.
Do what the Cowboys done. Build a great O-line. They have a good RB. Give him targets and then draft your QB of the future.
Who knows if Goff won't end up as a great QB? If Goff Ends up in Canton he is the best pick out of all of those Players. Simple as that. QB is the most important Position and is worth getting overdrafted. If you hit on a QB, your Draft was a success. No elite DE will ever have the Impact that a great and elite QB will have. There is no denying in that.
If you want a good QB, your best Chance is to get the guy YOU want and the best Chance is to draft early. If Pace is 100% committed to a guy like Kizer, he has to get him. If there are doubts, you don't overdraft for him.

That's the bottom-line, and I realize it's easier said than done. But I figure it's Pace's job to get 'er done.

Exactly, there is a guy that will be in canton that didn't really have a good rookie year, and we all got to watch him play the last decade; and there was a guy before him that was the same way. Manning and Farve. Why people don't understand that you cannot judge most positions right away is behind me. Most positions take 2-3 years, RB you can normally tell right away, but you need to see if they have staying power.
