Goff is a great example of first round QBs not always being the right call.
The Goff era isn’t off to a great start for the LA Rams. Goff wasn’t great in his first three starts, although he made a few plays against the #30 passing defense New Orleans Saints in his second start it wasn't enough to overcome them for the win. He was bad once again in a 42-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Goff was 24 of 41 for 235 yards and two interceptions, and that line was misleading because he did very little when the game was remotely competitive. Goff once again rarely threw anything more than 10 yards downfield. He turned the ball over at bad times. He made nothing happen against a Falcons defense that is #31 in passing defense. Sitting for nine games behind Keenum didn’t seem to help much.
Picking a QB with your first pick doesn't always help. Sure you can get your Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota there but that doesn't always guarantee a quality starter. Sure it could be his lack of weapons at his WR and Gurley regressing. But his decision making and lack of awareness isn't helping.
One example:
On a fumble return for a touchdown by Beasley, Goff showed very little awareness of the rush and was sacked and stripped of the ball.
So the big question remains. Do we take a shot at a QB in the first round? I'm all for leaving the Cutler era but is any QB truly worth a top 5 pick? Mitch Trubisky seems to be the #1 QB by many entering the draft and his biggest downside is his lack of experience. Is that truly worth a first round pick?
Or do we pull a Cowboys and build our O-line up and take a QB later on? We have a good RB in Howard, good wr depth, a great interior O-line but a lack of real depth at tackle.
In the draft thread I just posted a fantasy mock in which I hope Allen drops to 4 at DT and we scoop him up and Trubisky slides to our 2nd round pick. Yeah right!!!

just because the start of Goffs career wasn't good tells you, he'll be a bust? The Rams are a bad Team with Fisher as Coach... what do you expect them to be?

Ya think?
Did your ears suddenly become unplugged or the veil lift from your eyes? I think several of us have been trying to tell you that yet you kept beating it like it was a drum.
If we're looking for a trade partner for Cutler I'd be looking in LAs direction. They need a vet to start while Goff develops under someone because he's sure as hell not ready yet and I doubt we'd find a QB in the 2017 draft who'd be ready to start day one either so why try?

FWIW
- Peyton Manning's first year stats: 26 TD, 28 INT (led the league), 71.2 RAT - Tom Brady's first year stats: 18 TD, 12 INT, 86.5 RAT - Drew Brees' first year stats: 17 TD, 16 INT, 76.9 RAT
Don't get me wrong, I've never been a fan of Goff and if you remember I said months before the draft he's overrated and definitely not worth a first rd pick.
However sometimes you do need to pick one in the first and hope for the best simply because the odds of getting a stud in the later rounds are slim-to-none.
First overall picks fail all the time. There are plenty of first round picks in general that fail. The biggest problem with the top picks is that they are usually going to absolutely terrible teams. It can be pretty hard to have a great year when the rest of your team is bad.
Next line of argument will be that QBs can come from all over the draft but that HOF Pass rushers always come from the and all evidence to the contrary will be ignored. Good luck guys. I've fought this fight and its not worth it.
Yes and no. I was listening to the radio this morning and they were saying prior to the draft both Wentz and Goff were hoping to end up in Philly because the coaching they would receive there with Pederson, Reich, and DeFillipo would be much better than they would receive in LA.
