I am aware of that. Brax was drafted 5th round and now leads the entire NFL in pass blocking win rate (95%) for offensive tackles. Wright is not even in the top 20.
Dewand Jones played in 9 games and has 568 snaps.
So explain this to me like im 5. We are bitching about Poles best draft pick, and generally our best pick in years, here??
It is hard to miss getting a good player with #9 pick in first round, but that doesn’t mean he could not have done better. Time will tell, but I predict that passing on Anderson/Carter was a big mistake.
Is Lorin Cox a scout? I'm aware of how Jones played at the Senior Bowl, and I'm aware he was mentioned as a potential Bears pick in the second or third day. None of that changes my point, and you can substitute "thought" for "knew" if it bothers you that much. NOBODY THOUGHT HE'D BE AS GOOD AS HE IS RIGHT NOW. How about that?
While you're going back to senior bowl reports, go read the one's about Darnell Wright and all the interest the Bears were showing in him.
How many times do I have to say it that nobody can predict how good Jones,Wright, or anybody else is going to be until you see them on an NFL field. Can we be done with that now?
Lorin Cox is not himself a scout, but nobody tracks the Bears closer than him. He attended the Senior Bowl and talked to the scouts and others there, and reported that Jones was a real standout to everyone. What I said is that I wanted JSN in the first round and BPA right tackle in second round. No guarantee how that would have worked out, but that’s true in every draft. I stand by my statement that the Bears (and Fields) would have been better off with JSN and Jones than with Wright and Stevenson. Back then, nearly everyone here wanted “max Fields support “ as the goal of the 2023 draft.
I think long term it will end up being just fine with Wright than a guy who will be 400 pounds pretty soon. What you should be railing on instead is that the Bears picks were fine, but Tank Dell or Josh Downs should be on this team. That would have also been "max Fields support".

What a prediction LOL!!! Only problem is we passed on only one of those guys. Unless you believe we shouldn't have made the trade to acquire DJ Moore, this years likely top 2 pick, and a high second round pick next year. I know you're not going to try to make THAT argument...right?

Max Fields support for me is MHJ and Bowers as our picks in upcoming draft. Run 12 with Kmet/Bowers and MHJ/Moore. Then pick up Van Pran early second. Offense would be young and talented and if Fields ain't it that's a beautiful offense for a QB to come into if we get coaches.

I did not want to trade down lower than #4. As it turns out Anderson was gone. He could have traded to Texans and got Anderson. As for Carter, if he is Warren Sapp 2.0 and goes to the Hall of Fame, I will get the last laugh on this. Checking yesterday, he is tied with Aaron Donald for NFL lead in pass rush win rate for defensive lineman at 20%. Donald is double-teamed 63% and Carter 58%. His PFF grade is 90.5. Keep your draft picks, especially with Poles doing the drafting. Nearly everyone he has acquired so far in draft or free agency has not exceeded expectations based on their draft position or $$$ cost as FA. It is not at all clear that Wright was the best right tackle in this draft. Let’s see how he stacks up against both of the Jones boys (Dewand and Broderick) by the end of the year.

Oh you like Carter/Sapp? We didn't know this.
We have to find a way to train you to look to the future. I hope you find your dream Carter/Sapp and live happily ever after.

Why would you be laughing? Did any of your teams end up with Carter?

Isnt early second gone?
Shoot, you're right. I hope they are able to get a high second in a trade down because I'd love Van Pran.. him and MHJ are two players I think would really boost this offense. Realistically I can't imagine them drafting Bowers with the Kmet extension but for as much as "generational" gets thrown around.. two who might actually deserve it are Bowers and MHJ. The more top tier generational talent the better.
