Don't see this as desperation. Washington has two good edge rushers about to hit FA. They can't afford to keep both. Bears need a pass rusher.
That's called: "opportunity".
Last year yeah you could say Pitt didn't NEED to move Claypool so maybe that was more of a red flag. CC has ridiculous athletic gifts but is a headcase.
And again, Flus isn't really interested in getting his pass rush from the DE's, he wants them to be edge setters, and regardless of what you want/think/know, he's not guaranteed to be fired, nor is Poles. So the team will move forward w/getting what Flus wants/needs. W/that being the case, the Bears should be looking for an upgrade at DT/NT, not DE.
I'm all for them getting 1 of the 2, but I'm also not going to assume they will even try based on what we know about Flus and what he's looking for.
The best you can get is a late 3rd. And it depends on how many FAs you SIGN vs how many you lose. You could end up with a crappy 6th rounder or even nothing at all. And even if you do get something, its not until 2025.
Bottom line: comp pick(s) are way way overblown. Nice if you get a few but no big deal if you don't.
B) Poles shouldn't be making roster moves based on Flus. Flus isn't gonna be here very long in all likelihood. I'm happy to wager you $100 that he's not the Bears HC a year from now. Flus' only hope is that Getsy somehow gets Fields really going in the 2nd half of the season o/w I don't see how he survives. New QBs mean new coaching regimes.
Oh and one more thing--I'm so sick of us passing up good football players because they "don't fit the scheme". That's the excuse they used for not signing Orlando Brown. Who would you rather have playing LT right now--Larry Borom or Orlando Brown?
