Poles thinks he is a genius in the draft. Obviously, he is not. But so long as he believes that, he will resist trading draft picks for players. His modus operandi is to trade his good players for genius draft picks who will play better than the guys he got rid of. The results are evident. I am hoping, as JABF expects, he will move up the “learning curve” next year and recognize that he is not any smarter than other GMs and become more inspired to invest draft picks and $$$ to acquire some Pro Bowl caliber players via trade/FA as the successful GMs of other teams have done (Eagles, Chiefs, 49ers, Dolphins). I’m not optimistic. I want a new GM.
Man, you really need to get over last year's teardown. That's what EVERY GM does in a teardown.
His draft this year looks promising. Can we move on?
No, it has never happened before anything close to what Poles did. I researched it back to 2000. With the exception of Brax and Sanford, there is nothing impressive in his draft picks. And I still say it will go on his tombstone that he drafted a right tackle instead of Jalen Carter. Spare me the defense — already heard it 100 times.

Great, it was the greatest teardown since 2000. So what?
Did you watch in 2019-2021? If you did and you didn't think a major teardown was both coming and OVERDUE, then you must have been following a different team than me.
We have been through every single player that was released or traded a dozen times. Nothing to see there.
Sanford wasn't even a draft pick (UDFA). His actual draft picks look pretty good, Velus being the only significant exception, so I have no idea what the hell you're talking about there.
Oh and BTW, Darnell Wright is a TACKLE and he's gonna be a damn good one. He's playing the right side his rookie year but that does not mean he will never play left. Lots of rookie OTs start right and move to left after a year or two (as needed).
And finally, I know you love Carter but Poles would have been tarred and feathered if he didn't shore up the OT position after the trash they had playing RT in 2022. All we would have been hearing is that "Bears don't care about offense!" and "Poles didn't help the QB!".
I guarantee you would have been saying those things.
Its borderline absurd to be firing a GM less than 2 seasons in. You act like he's drafted 8 total busts.

I totally agree about Wright. We whine and cry about the OL, yet when Poles drafts the (arguably) top offensive lineman in the entire 2023 draft class we have people whine about not drafting a D player. Poles is less than halfway through his 2nd season. I find it laughable to definitively grade his drafts yet (good or bad).
The Bears hired a 36 year old as a rookie 1st time GM... it was only 20 months ago. For fans to expect that would result in a GM who wouldn't make mistakes (these first few years in particular) - is pretty crazy.
This week I was thinking about how we heard for months how the world was going to end for the Bears if we didn't draft JSN. Well, we didn't. The mighty JSN is currently ranked 16th among this year's rookie receivers. To put that into perspective, 5th round rookie Puka Nakua is averaging 80 yards more per game than the mighty JSN. I guess everyone should be fired in Seattle for not drafting Puka instead of Jaxon Smith-Njigba. JSN has a drop rate score for the season of 35.5 through 7 games. Pitiful.
But here's the deal. JSN will be a great WR in this league. Give him time and he will. But good things sometimes take time - players and GMs are not instant perfect finished products. But us fans get impatient and stamp our foot and demand people get fired or players cut. In Poles case, it's only 7 games into the guys second season. Yeah, it's delusional thinking a 36 year old GM is gonna give us "perfect" by his first few months of the second season, right?
riczaj01 has mentioned something to the effect that constant turnover of GMs/HCs is poison for a franchise. At some point we need some continuity here. I'm guilty of the impatient stuff myself. I have been white-hot angry with Getsy and Eberflus at times. But if they can show improvement in these last 10 games then hey, I'm not going to have a fit if we don't fire them. But they need to show us some improvement. But in the other thread I posted about how the Bears are averaging over 27ppg now in the last 4 games... a total of 111 points scored. Last season 27ppg would be a top-3 offense (only KC, Eagles and Bills scored 27 or higher). Let's watch and see if the Bears CAN improve these next 10 games. Hey, even the D is looking better in recent games.
Or maybe we fire everyone because we didn't draft Jalen Carter.

Lots of dead horse material here. You may recall that I ALWAYS wanted Anderson/Carter in the draft.
The only thing I will add is that, after two drafts, you’d think a genius drafter would have more than one guy (Brax) playing at a level above his draft number. Moreover, his free agents have done practically nothing, because he goes after second-tier guys instead of the top players. Consequently, teams that had records as bad or much worse than the Bears in 2021 are kicking his ass with their trajectory since then (Seahawks, Jags, LIONS).
