Meanwhile, Poles should be trying to make a trade for Chase Young before he goes free agent and costs a fortune.
Who says he isn't? just because he makes the calls doesn't mean that DC or him can come to an agreement. Also, and again, Flus doesn't want DE pass rushers as much as he wants them to be edge setters. He wants the pressure to come from the inside.
Again you ignore what is right in front of you and is well known. Don't have to like it, don't have to agree with it, but why would you trade a ton of draft capital, or player capital, or both, for a guy that doesn't work in the scheme the coach wants?
He needs to find a Jalen Carter or Suh or Donald w/out the inherent character flaws...so Donald. Is there a Donald on the trading block?
I didn’t say he’s not trying to trade for Chase Young. I said this is the time to try, and the clock is running out.

I didn't say he was either. I said we don't know what he's doing or trying, and likely won't ever know. If the Bears hold pat, maybe it was their intention, maybe it was there was nothing that came around after trying.
Regardless, as much as I would like Chase on the team, it's not exactly a piece that makes sense for the team itself, just like Roquan Smith. Great pieces that don't fit into the car you are building don't fit no matter how great they are.

A guy who can beat the defensive lineman in front of him and get 12-15 sacks per year has a place on my team.
I have a theory about Poles but need more data. I have been looking at the defensive linemen he has acquired (and passed over) in the last two years. As you would say, multiple inferences — some mutually exclusive — may be drawn. When it comes to making trades and/or free agent acquisitions of players who are SIGNIFICANTLY better football players than those he has actually acquired, it is possible that (A) He is not trying or (B) He is trying but not willing to offer what other GMs are willing to offer to make these acquisitions. For whatever reasons, the Chiefs, Eagles, Dolphins, 49ers, etc. are getting Pro Bowl caliber players via trades/FA while Poles is getting….well, what we’ve got. The question is “Why?” I think Poles’ own words are a clue.

Should be able to, but if his primary job is to set the edge and not pass rush, he will go from 12-15 to 5-6 and people will look at the trade and the contract as a bust.
I'll repeat it as long as people keep trying to use it to justify terrible ideas like we should have paid almost 30mil more to play a player out of position rather then bring in a comparable 4-3 MLB for less.
And they are comparable, you can use totals, you can use pff, you can use whatever you want, but for 30 mil less Edmunds in THIS DEFENSE on this team is comparable to Ro in the BALT DEFENSE.
Meanwhile, Poles should be trying to make a trade for Chase Young before he goes free agent and costs a fortune.
BTW, lotta rumors out there that Wash is gonna move either Sweat or Young as they can't FT both.
Also read that this years draft class at EDGE isn't so hot up top.
Bears have a ton of cap space to sign either and desperately need a pass rusher going forward.
Poles definitely should be making calls. Take 1st off the table, would you give up a 2nd (prob a high 2nd) for either?
While Flus most certainly deserves whatever comes his way, in my opinion Getsy failed even more so in that the development of Fields falls in his wheelhouse. As a team, the Bears needed to know what they have in Fields. That alone is what was most important this season as it tees up what happens in the next draft and beyond. Getsy has failed here and truthfully so has Fields.
Not sure what Getsy could have done for Fields. If he got the yips and was seeing ghosts before Getsy even was brought in, Getsy's die was cast before he signed the contract. Unlike Nagy though, There is a qb on this roster that appears to be able to get the job done the way Getsy wants it. If that continues, or if that allows Fields the ability to get past whatever his issues were, than I think Getsy has shown promise in a way that might be worth keeping him and Flus, especially if his def keeps getting better as he calls the plays.
Didn't want either of them mind you, thought they were both bad hires, but I'm not blaming them for the shit Poles, purposefully, gave them. The team was never set up to win, so I'm not holding either accountable for it. Fields might never have been able to develop after his rookie year, and that's assuming he could have regardless; I'm sorry but the issues he had in college are still issues he has 3 years into the NFL and I don't buy that coaches haven't taught him he cannot get away with it in the pro's.
I agree largely. I don't think Getsy has done enough to keep his job (especially if a new QB is coming -- start fresh IMO) and I don't think he's done a great job calling to JF1's strengths. But Ric has a point too -- 3 years in Fields needs to be showing more positive developments and fewer of the same mistakes he's made for years such as holding the ball too long, too many TOs, and being generally poor in short-to-intermediate passing game.
It's true the team was bereft of talent on offense for most/all of his time here but come on, you gotta elevate, Justin. CJ Stroud has done more with less in a shorter time. We should be seeing real GROWTH by now.

Simple solution: Fire Eberflus and switch to 3-4 defense. Replace as many of Poles front-7 as needed. Get a good edge guy in the draft to complement Young. Maybe keep Billings as NT.

Roq made it clear he wanted to "reset the market" and be the highest-paid at his position. If you recall, a knock on him was the very same as the one on JJ -- he didn't force as many turnovers as other "elite" players did.
JJ isn't talking like that. He wants to be well paid for sure but he isn't claiming to be the top CB in the league or asking for market re-setting money.
Roq was also a bit of a PITA off the field. He lost his playbook. He got caught partying with pornstars in public during Covid lockdowns. He held out (or "held in") TWICE. He refused to hire an agent. Then he went out of his way to throw shade at Family Fest by publicly saying the Bears weren't negotiating "in good faith" with him.
JJ has been a good soldier and not an off-field embarrassment.
Finally, Roq plays ILB; JJ plays CB. CB >> ILB in terms of impact. If you're gonna pay an ILB $20+M/yr, he better be taking the ball away a lot. It's simply a less premium position on defense.
IMO, unless JJ is quietly demanding ridiculous money, he's a no-brainer to re-sign. We aren't tearing down this year. We are rebuilding and he's a solid B+ starter at a key position who is only 24 yo.
