I want to see the Bears sign their own, proven players. I'm sure either player here would be okay, but I would prefer Meredith. Regarding the money issue, I figure that's something for Pace to worry about. Not me. If we have the money, then spend it on proven players. As far as investing big money in WRs, well, if we are not prepared to support Mitchell Trubisky, then why draft him? Just keep on keeping on with crap offenses and crap QBs.
JMO.
But has Cam proven anything? He's essentially played 1 year. I'm w/you sign your guys, but that thought is normally b/c your guys should be at a cheaper price.
I'm not saying he's a great WR, or a #1. But when you watch him work in games he is amazing. He runs good routes. He makes amazing catches. The guy also blocks well too (no small thing in my book). I'm just going by what I see the guy do in games. And, admittedly, I've liked the guy since he came here from ISU (the local university here in town). I'm biased, wanting the guy to be a Bear :-)
If all he's getting is a one year deal then if he's smart he should push the one year deal the guy the Colts let go, Moncrief, got from JAX.....$9.6 mil gtd. Obviously that's why the Colts let him go so they won't make an offer like that to Meredith.
We may have to compete with a one year offer for $4-$6 mil or maybe they offer two with more guaranteed. Anyway you slice it Pace and Meredith will have an offer that sets his MV and Pace can match it if he chooses. Any deal we cut would probably have an out after year two at the latest so I'm not worried.
I'd rather pay the freight to bring Cam back than go into 2018 with Whiteor a rookie as our #2 WR.
Why not just draft a WR then do either? Plenty of good WR's that could handle the #2 role in the 2nd-4th. It's the elephant in the room no one seems to wan to talk about.
Maybe, but a Cam in the hand is worth a #2 in the bush. A draftee would be a rookie no?

I agree. Just me, but to want a middle rounder unknown just to save some money seems counterproductive, but hey... that's just me.

My position remains unchanged.
I'd rather have one in the bush right now. oh... wait.... yeah I see what you were saying.

You make a good point, Soul, in that we KNOW what we have in Meredith. He is young, yet experienced & definitely adds to Trubisky's arsenal of weapons.
