I just don't want to see Cutler's successor getting anointed. I'd rather have them beat Cutler out - that way you at least have some comfort you are getting an upgrade. I also want to see some proper competition for the QB spot and for them to start whoever is playing best.
More often then not that's not how it works in the NFL; and so far Im not sure that's how it's worked w/Pace/Fox who have removed players to ease the way for the guys they want to have the spot, Marshal traded for White, Slaussen sent packing for Whitehair, Forte not re signed for Langford(who couldn't get him off the field unless Forte was inj'd), Bennett sent away for Miller.
This team very much will remove competition for their guys, specifically their draft picks.

yeah on many of these, I did not like what Fox did. Not sure why on some. And some that were bad decisions (Slauson and Forte) worked out well, but because Pace bailed him out with FA or picks.

sometimes this is needed, sometimes it's not. Draft picks with Talent Need time and experience. They will get this by playing for a rebuilding team

Jay Cutler:

I don't know how anyone can compare the two. They are light years different from one another....
Jay Cutler would not do anything to help us. Why keep him. If we draft a QB with our 1st or 2nd and if he's ready to play you play him. Enough said.

I don't buy into the "Learned from a good QB" idea. If that were the case, Osweiler and Mallet would not suck. Matt Flynn would be a starting QB. Jim Sorgi would be waiting his turn to be inducted into the HOF.
Aaron Rodgers thankfully wasted three seasons for his chance behind Farve. The front office simply could not get away from Farve in his declining years because he just wouldn't leave. He didn't teach Rodgers squat either.
QB ability reveals itself within a year if a player can play or not. Unfortunately, you need to have good coaching as well, and it is really hard to determine which is the problem.
Problem is that with QB, I don't think I can recall a single instance of a QB that took a beating and played badly for a year or two that came out of it and played well. These guys typically don't do well when thrown in, but that's JMO
I don't think that this OL will allow at QB to take a beating for one; for two, Rogers was sacked 34, 50, 31, Joe Flacco 32, 36, 40, Big Ben, 30, 23, 46 in his first 3 years, Stafford 36, 29, 23 those are their sacks in their first 3 full years of starting(didn't count less then 11 or so games). And the Closing argument, Russell Wilson has been sacked no less then 33 times every year, last 4 years 40+ times that he's played.
So ya there are a few recent examples of qb's that have overcome getting "killed".
Do you want the list of rookie QBs that have NOT overcome getting killed? I bet that list is longer (by a lot). So odds are that after getting killed, a QB won;t survive. (I actually like the sound of that too)

thats assuming that the sacks are what broke them and not their lack of talent or work ethic.
I don't look at the issue as being whether or not a QB is going to get hit/sacked a lot. Some players (at any NFL position) may not be ready to start day-1, yet, they may still be solid starters at some point. Could you start them anyway, day-1? Sure. I guess you can do that with all of your draft picks every year if you want. It may not always be the best way though. JMO.
When talking about college players making the jump to the NFL I don't believe there is a hard-and-fast rule that applies to everyone, in every situation. I believe good coaches understand that every player is unique to some extent. They understand what will allow each individual the best opportunity to be successful at the NFL level and they work with each person accordingly. Ultimately you want your players to attain their ceiling potential for the success of the team.
One example may be Belichick's way of replacing Tom Brady. Will he draft and start a kid day-1? Maybe. But I wouldn't be surprised if he brings in a draftee and gives him SOME time before he is the starting quarterback for the Patriots. I don't think the world will end if a kid carries a clipboard a bit before he starts at the NFL level.
Hi guys. Here's my thoughts- I don't want JCut here any more. But I also didn't want to suck for the last several years, and how did that turn out? There is not a QB in this draft class that I would waste a top 5 pick on, including Kizer or Watson. I would much rather have an elite player that is top notch, can't miss. There are a couple of intriguing prospects that will go in the 2nd/3rd round, and I would snag one there, (one named Chad Kelly, who played at Ole Miss) and let him compete w/ Cutty, and if not beat him outright, take over in game 4 when Cutty breaks his leg/arm/toe/finger/thumb/whateveritisthisyear.

Welcome to the messageboard!!! It sure is going to be interesting to see what Pace does, both in free agency and the draft. I wish I knew what he thinks of these quarterbacks this year. I also have wondered about Kelly. He could be a steal if he has straightened his off the field life out.
