If the team drafts QB with that 2nd round pick (~pick #35 of the draft or so) who would be a realistic guy available there, who would be worth a shot? Here's the top-10 draft prospects at QB according to CBS Sports (LINK). The top 3 guys will more than likely be gone in the first round. Is there anyone left who would be worthy of a 2nd round pick in your opinion? Who do you like?
PROBABLE FIRST ROUNDERS: Mitch Trubisky - North Carolina DeShone Kizer - Notre Dame Deshaun Watson - Clemson
BEST OF THE REST: Brad Kaaya - Miami Mason Rudolph - Oklahoma State Chad Kelly - Ole Miss Davis Webb - California Nathan Peterman - Pittsburgh C.J. Beathard - Iowa Joshua Dobbs - Tennessee
I like Davis Webb from California. He is not NFL ready day-1. Walter Football has him ranked as the #3 QB in this upcoming draft, but nobody else has him that high (that I could find anyway). But just watching video on him this season, he has a lot to like, IMHO. He's 6'5" and 224 pounds.
Some compare him with Goff, and I know some here don't like Goff at all. And I realize we don't need a project who probably wouldn't be ready at all the first season. I know that is less than ideal. But we may very well not pick a QB in the first round, and when I look at what's left in the second round to us, this guy may have the highest ceiling if a team was patient with him.

No way you touch Kelly in the 2nd, kid is a headcase the likes of Johnny Football. Don't know much about the others.

Kaaya, bad under pressure, good not a great arm, might lack leadership.
Webb seems to be moving up the lists. Being compared to Goff(same system, never under center) and has shown an ability to pre determine who he's throwing to and making bad decisions. But definitely has the size and arm you want, and can make good accurate passes.
Rudolf is like a more raw version of Webb, big guy, good arm, but only tends to work half the field, and rarely goes off his #1 target and tends to stare him down.
Cannot find anything on Peterman, apparently looks to be a UDFA prospect as that was the first article that popped up when I searched him
CJB, one scouting report said he's a nice game manager, again likely a UDFA
Dobbs struggled w/accuracy and had fumbling issues, did not look like an nfl passer
Here are a few others:
Kizer, only one w/a high first round grade(per nfl sources) good touch on passes while under pressure, good field vision, good arm strength, can make all throws,
Mitch, 2nd round grade per nfl sources, but likely goes in the 1st, good decision making and accuracy
Watson, 2-4th round grades, could go late 1st, ala Teddy B-side b/c of positional need. Issues w/accuracy and ball placement, hasn't dominated
Pat Mahomes nfl is mixed about him, some are like some don't, good arm potential pocket passer, can move in the pocket and run when needed. One playoff team in the NFL compared him to Carr; other teams had him in the 3rd or 4th round.
Luke Fualk really good arm good from pocket, needs to work on progression and moving eyes. problem w/locking onto a wr and needs to work on footwork from under center.
Pick #1 and #2 really need a QB too. Its the most important position thats why the bottom teams need one. I just hope the cards fall in our favor. If history has anything to say about it, we will screw it up.
I did spend a lot of time reading everything I could on the top-10 quarterbacks, and I watched video of their play. Here's my take on it all:
1. The "experts" seem to not agree in their public assessment of these guys. One will have a guy much higher than another. No wonder teams draft bust QB's so often. One team's scouts can see a guy as a first round talent, and another looks at that same player and sees him as a mid-round talent.
2. This is not a "bad" quarterback class so much as it is a class of players who will not shine day-1 in the NFL. The best of this class is still going to need to be developed. Some are more raw than others. But that doesn't mean there aren't a few solid QB's in this draft. This year's rookie, Goff, is a good example of this. He has the physical gifts to ultimately be a good NFL quarterback, but he is not NFL-ready. The scouts said that about him. So folks shouldn't be surprised that he is not shining right out of the chute this first season. This is what you have now with most QB's who have not come up in a pro system.
3. We can probably get a good QB in this draft. But we are delusional if we believe he will not take time to develop. Bears fans won't want to believe that and will label the guy a bust pretty quickly. That's too bad. We probably should have drafted our QB this past year - or even before that. Cutler always charms our coaches into believing he can be "fixed" and that has hurt us from getting our true franchise QB. I honestly wish we had never made the trade for Jay Cutler. I think he hurt the team in the long-run. Fools-gold there.
