This kind of attention to detail (and secondarily, the amount of time and effort required) is what makes a GM like Poles so special. We all love players who are intelligent and have impeccable work habits. Well, it goes for GMs too.
I had a memory on Facebook pop up this morning from a post 12 years ago that simply said "Shea McClellin?!" 12 years ago we were all trying to wrap our minds around how Phil Emery could draft some dude named Shea McClellin and today we're trying to wrap our minds around Caleb Williams PLUS Rome Odunze. The difference in the two GM's is incredible. And then you add in Atlanta (Ryan Pace is Director of Player Personnel) with the huge overreach for Penix? So glad to have Poles as GM here!
We actually have no proof outside of one poster insisting that Flus talked Poles into a DT at #9, which like most poster predictions turned out to be false. In the draft room shot they broadcast, Flus looked as excited as everyone else to get Rome.
Poles controls this team, thats my opinion--not presenting that as fact. This whole process from the tear down to now has his fingers on it. I don't think Warren even gets input.
It could still all fall apart, but I'm optimistic, again I know thats like saying the sky is blue.
I think Warren is a real CEO type of executive. That means that if he has someone working for him who is truly competent and makes the best possible decisions, he leaves them to do what they do best.
Yeah, don't micro-manage a guy who is truly competent and makes the best possible decisions. Let that guy work and consequently it makes the executive level guy look good.

Two Quotes:
"Edit: The proverbial cat is out of the bag. The Bears have already decided they are going "with Murphy at #9. Adam Schefler nailed it."
"It was more than a hint. Eberflus sold him on Murphy, and now Poles is preparing us for it, even if Odunze is on the board. On Brugler’s rankings, Odunze is #6 and Murphy #16. If possible, I’d rather trade down for Newton plus 2nd round pick than take Murphy at #9."

Don't you love it when people just KNOW what is going to happen before it does? Yet none of them have won any lotteries. Go figure.

Random draft thoughts:
Interesting to watch Falcons QB development over the next 2-3 years. They are following the GB-model as may posters/writers/fans believe it to be: draft a rookie and sit him behind a vet for 2-3 seasons and voila--it all works out. Personally I don't believe it, but I thought the Bears were SB bound when they traded for Cutler so what do I know.
(EDIT: before I get yelled at I'm not claiming that Penix got drafted at the right time or that I consider him having the ability and/or makeup to turn into a real NFL QB. What I am saying is that those who champion the "GB-way" for the most part don't consider the QB drafted, just that you take one early and let him sit.)
Minny---really what else were they going to do. They needed a QB unless we think Darnold is going to start more than 12 games this season. They have the WR, TE and RB. OL is not terrible. DEF is average to above average. Now I have doubts about JJMcCarthy but they were going to draft a QB. I thought they'd package the 2 first rounders and move up but...everyone stayed put.
Is the league recognizing that OFF>DEF or just a one year blip? I'm thinking blip.
Curious to see what QBs get drafted now.....who is still out there?

Actually, I was thinking just that. There were several analysts over the last 3 or 4 months who had Penix rated as the QB prospect would adapt to a classical NFL passing offense the fastest of all of the top 5 or 6 QBs in the 2024 draft class.
I'm not trying to second guess any of the picks from last night. But, it remains to be seen who ends up being the most successful QB drafted yesterday.

I never have bought this "this is a passing league" stuff. You need both. A good D breaks down what the O is trying to do. You need to score and you need to stop the other team from scoring. It has always been and always will be. But ya got to let people talk. You can't change too many peoples minds anyway. We all have our own ideas

Round 1 of this year's draft felt like a Fantasy Football Draft more than an NFL draft for sure
I think an Olineman may be worth giving up a 2nd next year to get into thisnyears 2nd, but a Dlineman can fall to 3rd round
I love defense and think we still desperately need to add depth to the DL. Newton or some edge help would be grand.. however I would be ecstatic to trade back into the second and solidify the interior of our OL. If we grabbed our top rated center and we're sitting with Williams/Rome/Top C... Wow man that would be a wild top three picks.
