We actually have no proof outside of one poster insisting that Flus talked Poles into a DT at #9, which like most poster predictions turned out to be false. In the draft room shot they broadcast, Flus looked as excited as everyone else to get Rome.
Poles controls this team, thats my opinion--not presenting that as fact. This whole process from the tear down to now has his fingers on it. I don't think Warren even gets input.
It could still all fall apart, but I'm optimistic, again I know thats like saying the sky is blue.

I think Warren is a real CEO type of executive. That means that if he has someone working for him who is truly competent and makes the best possible decisions, he leaves them to do what they do best.
I'm still in awe that this franchise, the Chicago Bears, not only got the #1 ranked QB in the class, but have put him in a very good position to not fail from day 1. Poles has been masterful these last two years - he has improved our OLine and SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded Offensive weapons for Caleb. I can't remember any time in history where a rookie QB was going to be walking into this good of a spot as the day 1 starter. The moves on O Line are "remain to be seen" but those moves SHOULD result in a better O line than last year. Again, not the best O Line by any means, but an improved O line for sure, and the O weapons Caleb has? DAMN. Is this really the Bears?

Still trying to wrap my mind around his stadium decisions but seems to be good other than that

I agree on the stadium. But, IMO, we need to see exactly how that develops.

Exactly. Most, if not all successful executives, operate that way. When I was working, I used to tell those I deemed as competent to keep me informed thereby allowing me to work with those who needed their skill sets developed in order to be successful.

I don't think anyone was saying that Flus was pressuring Poles but rather that it would make sense for D-HC who's talked repeatedly about his value for the DT position to advocate for that. Just was a logical possibility.
Poles' teardown from 2022, which drew a ton of criticism from some posters here, now looks like a genius move. With special thanks to the ineptitude of the NFC South and some help from lady luck, of course.
It's pretty clear at this point that Poles was never fully on board with JF1 as his QB which is the biggest reason you don't let an outgoing regime draft a new QB (repeating myself for the 496th time).
I'm starting to hear buzz on social media that Poles is shopping Khalil Herbert. He might have a surprise where we maybe get a 3rd round pick for Khalil this year. But more likely, a conditional 2025 draft pick. IMO Poles is basically done in the draft. Not that he won't get all he can with or remaining 2 picks this year. Just that his major projects are done.
I am hoping that Carolina gives us another gift in 2025 by having a poor record so the 2nd round pick we have from them is very close to a late 1st round pick. I hope we can get long DE or 3Tech DL help and maybe OT help so we can have realy solid lines with depth on both sides of the ball.
Poles knows that which is another reason I think he will be very reluctant to trade the pick. He knows it has a very high likelihood of being a 30s pick next year. Keep your powder dry.
I also think Poles is mostly done in this draft and will just stick at 75 and 122 and move on.
I think that is the very essence of how every single poster on this messageboard feels. The past history is past. Time to move on from the past and build something special here - NOW - and yes, build a dynasty. That should be the goal. Yes, that means taking it one step at a time... like winning the division, winning the conference, winning a 2nd Super Bowl... etc. etc. etc.
But successful people and businesses - and the best professional sports franchises - have big visions for big accomplishments. Tiny minds have weak goals and achieve little. I love this Ryan Poles guy. I don't know if he can pull this off. But I love his mindset, his plan and how he is all-in for swinging for the fences.
No "tiny mind" duct taping this thing. Dude is all-in for greatness. Will he achieve it? Who knows. But at least we have a guy who seems like a young and very talented GM... maybe (arguably) the best young talent in the NFL right now at GM. Oh, and one other thing. If this dude believes in Matt Eberflus, then I do too. The team is improving under him. I don't care if he's a D background coach, O background coach, Special Teams background coach... I don't care if he's an alien from planet Mars... If Ryan Poles believes in this dude - then I do too.
Go Bears!
This kind of attention to detail (and secondarily, the amount of time and effort required) is what makes a GM like Poles so special. We all love players who are intelligent and have impeccable work habits. Well, it goes for GMs too.
I had a memory on Facebook pop up this morning from a post 12 years ago that simply said "Shea McClellin?!" 12 years ago we were all trying to wrap our minds around how Phil Emery could draft some dude named Shea McClellin and today we're trying to wrap our minds around Caleb Williams PLUS Rome Odunze. The difference in the two GM's is incredible. And then you add in Atlanta (Ryan Pace is Director of Player Personnel) with the huge overreach for Penix? So glad to have Poles as GM here!
