With the way these quarterbacks are ascending in this draft (with a small army of QB hungry teams this year) I'm feeling fairly confident now that one of the "Big 3" wide receivers will be there for us at #9. Teams are going to trade up to get one of these top QBs in a draft class that seems to be a very very special year for quarterbacks. Poles (hopefully) will get us a great WR at #9.
(1) "over reach" is a concept purely developed for the most part by the draftniks. Within reason (no one is taking a punter with the first pick in the first round--unless he was robo-punter, able to down every punt out of bounds at the one.) once the draft is over only the draftniks care about where or when a player was drafted. If you can get an AP C and you are sure, take him 9th. If you aren't sure, take another position. Because over-drafted isn't a thing once the last pick is turned in. (also not a thing---"a value pick" but thats a topic for another day.)
(2) To trade down, lets try to remember, Poles needs someone willing to come up. I'm seeing lots of chatter about Poles being able to trade down as if all he as to do is wave his magic wand, say "Trade Down!" and it happens. I know we all "know" this, and "you" above all other posters aren't so dumb as to believe trade downs happen magically, but we sure like to type it out. Wait until after the draft when we start seeing "Why did Poles take [insert drafted player here] at [insert draft pick here], he could have traded down with [insert random team here] and still taken [insert drafted player here] and gotten a [insert lower round draft pick here."
I don’t give a damn what any ONE says, but if you see 100, including mocks from knowledgeable guys like Brugler and others who have studied all the tapes and NONE have WR not going before 2nd or 3rd round, I am not drafting him at #9 and neither is Poles. You can take that to the bank.
Some of that is groupthink
Some, not all. There are a number of professionals at ESPN, Sports Ilustrated, PFF, NFL.com, etc., etc., etc. who do their own independent research. In the end, they are pretty close in the consensus board. As I said, a WR universally projected second or third round isn’t going #9 no matter how much butkus or somebody here may want.

Odunze will probably be there at #9, but Poles may go DE anyway. That would not surprise me at all.

Although we need to support CWill - or whoever - and I understand that, we can't completely ignore the defense either. So yes, DE at #9 wouldn't surprise me either. But I'm still hoping for another stud WR. Allen is not a long-term dude here.

But how do we NOT know if this works? Maybe we should debate this a bit further and wonder if perhaps this wand is a use once and it breaks type of thing.
Maybe Poles should just say "Da Bears will win the Superbowl!" But the next debate is should he not specify when to win this Superbowl? Because it could be any year in the future.
This is the type of thing as a group we should come together on. An actual day! Bears stay in Chicago! Who has the best pizza? What colors should C.Wills nails be? Navy or Burnt orange or a lovely collage of those colors.
It is rainy and windy up here in Toronto-Land. I am sitting in a roofing supply store with no customers and REALLY BORED!!

I think nearly everyone here wants Odunze at #9 if possible. The only interesting question is what to do if he’s gone before #9.

I don't believe in wands. But Pixie Dust is a whole other matter....

Just speaking for myself, I'd like to get another blue (impact player). Problem is you have no guarantees anyone is going to be an impact player. That's why GMs trade down and try to get more bites of the apple.
I'm in the minority, but I really like Bowers and trading down to get him and more picks would be fine with me. A DE is sorely needed. so it a DT. But if not a top WR, then I would have to say DE. We have a functional DT. We now (hopefully) have a functional C. We don't have a good second DE. That would be my pick
