It's not a crazy idea except I think that would be inviting dissention and cliques into the locker room. Every week would be a constant QB controversy.
I'm not sure its even fair to Fields. The moment he has a bad game or even a bad half there will be calls for him to be benched. And then you're gonna have to stall on that cuz once you turn to Williams, you aren't going back.
I just can't see them doing that for political and PR reasons.
I can see some advantage to Williams not having to start right away. But in this PARTICULAR case it could turn the season into a circus clown show of drama. I keep thinking of how this particular locker room is very young with a lot of new players - with the locker room already favoring Justin Fields. I could see the team REALLY hating our new kid. It reminds me a little bit of how Cedric Benson was hated by his teammates and the locker room was toxic with the team liking Thomas Jones. Yeah, I can't see anything good coming out of this.
I see both sides of it but honestly what would stop the locker room from this dissention the first time the team gets together?
I myself would rather C.Will sit for a bit as well. Unless we sign someone like Russ Wilson I can't see it happening.
This is kind of where I have evolved to also, The only issue with this is we don't have many picks in this draft and we miss on getting a pick for Fields. In the end though, I think it is a sound strategy. I am also betting we won't do it.

yeah, that's all fair. It would be up to the HC to manage that stuff, but it's all valid for sure.

LOL, full disclosure: I am hoping all of you guys will be extra-patient with me as we go through this QB transition thing. I am so traumatized over our past QB failures that I'm losing my mind worrying about what could go wrong this time around. I'm over analyzing every potential move (like the keeping Fields and Caleb both thing).
I feel like Wile E. Coyote "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?" LOL

Just assume it will ALL go wrong. Better now? You don't have to pick and choose.

HAHAHAAAA!
Instead of crickets, or tumbleweeds, this is my take on waiting for the draft...

Oh, it absolutely could go completely sour, no doubt about it. I hope not but I'm definitely NOT a fan of keeping Flus for a new QB. Should have put everyone on the same timeline and hired an offensive-HC. That way if Waldron leaves for a HC job you're not forcing a young QB to learn a new system.
I hope my dislike of keeping Flus proves to be wrong.
Even with all that, you gotta keep trying at the QB position. You can't quit because you have failed many times before.

And I could see this working out well too. Could go either way. Regarding Eberflus, if I could turn back the clock I'd prefer that the Bears had hired an offense head coach. But some good teams have won (and are winning) with defense head coaches. Granted they are in the minority for sure. But it can be done. Guys like Houston's DeMeco Ryans, John Harbaugh, Belichick, Tomlin, Carroll, Sean McDermott... the list goes on... some of the D head coaches have had good success. Maybe the Bears can get it done with Eberflus. I do believe that is not ideal though.

Off the top of my head, Tomlin and Harbaugh won one SuperBowl. Belicheck won several but I think he was exposed after Brady left. In prior post I already stated this seems to be exception as OC Josh McDaniels was terrible as HC in Denver and returned to New England as OC continuing his run with Brady. Nobody knows what would have been without Brady but I suspect Belicheck would have won fewer SuperBowls.

At the end of the day you need an HC that can hire good coaches. And you need to get the QB right, and provide the infrastructure for them to thrive. Defensive head coach...offensive head coach...doesn't matter if the first two don't happen.
