Talk about grading on a curve... a B for being 25th out of 32 coaches? And the families rating surprised me too. There were a few that surprised me. Not sure how accurate these things are though. Very inconsistent grades. One of them got an A for 6th out of 32. Then another got an A- for 4th out of 32. Was a monkey doing this? Oh.... sorry. forgot. It was my project.
Clearly our franchise is burdened with a crap cafeteria. Our season is doomed. Can we trade our #1 draft pick for a better cook? Hmmmmmmmmmm
So if a rookie quarterback came in and got you nine wins and a wild card you’d be dissatisfied?
Depends on the team. If it’s the Texans or Panthers in 2023, that’s a major achievement. Not the Bears with Williams in 2024. Poles has #1, #9, and large cap space, gets rid of worthless coordinators, and only manages 2 more wins than last year. You are satisfied with that?
Hmm. Well it depends on the progression. For instance, if the rookie comes in and you start 0-8 but they are close losses with rookies doing rookie things Then you pull a Detroit and rattle off 9 straight wins including some double digit wins would you be excited? Certainly that would be better than a 10 win season but you lost 3 of the last 4 in blowout fashion right?

We (probably) gonna have a rookie QB. This season is under huge question mark. Its not QBs fault if we pick him at 1. They always need time, at least a year. He or Bears are not going by your timetable for 2025, as it seems. I expect very little improvement, if any, with a rookie qb. Gave Fields 3y, somebody else gets at least one. 2025 will be a diff story.
Yeah I mean it’s a rookie at the most important position. Ppl had Love being a bum until the thanksgiving game before the light went on and he sat three years learning from a HOFer.
I feel we have an incredible opportunity to get to the next level and secure our playoffs for years to come. In the same time, I feel we gonna eff it up once again.
This is currently where I'm at. I'm just praying Poles doesn't overthink this and try to be the smartest guy in the room (something Bears fans have experienced). CW is right there for the taking.
This is actually why I don't normally watch tape on prospects until after the draft. Last thing I want to do is get attached to some prospect when 95% of the time they're going to be drafted by another team. I made an exception this year since we had the 1st pick and looked like we might draft a QB. Now that I've watched so much of CW in action, I'm going to take it pretty hard if they pass on him.
I know. As much as I do like Justin Fields, as this process has gone on, and I've watched and rewatched his play, there is no denying Caleb Williams does have a lot of talent. You know he could be the guy to finally break the quarterback curse here in Chicago. And I keep coming back to the thought that Poles will support a new QB with a few key upgrades on offense this season. Shane Waldron sure looks like a guy who can develop a QB properly (gotta like what he did with Geno Smith's career resurrection). All I have wanted from the start of all this, is for the Bears to get this right this time around. If CW is the best, then go all in and get him. Don't dink around on this. Get the best.

I don't care if he is or not unless we pick him. Whoever we go with, I hope is THE GUY and will succeed. Unfortunately, even if he has a lot of skill, it may take a year or two. Not too many new QBs have instant success. It happens, but if it does not, I hope we give the new guy enough time to hit his ceiling if he is continuing to get better

This is exactly how I look at it. These are the nuances that a lot of people tend to overlook. For a young team with a ton of new players, the progression of the team matters more than the record, taken in a vacuum and overlooking the total picture. That old adage, "you are what your record says you are" has never been true. Every season is a journey. Every team is unique. There is context to consider. We have seen many teams (even Super Bowl winning teams) struggle early in the season and end as POWERFUL teams. A team can end the season as more powerful than teams that had better records overall that year. If it were "only" about the record, you wouldn't need playoffs or a Super Bowl. Just crown the team with the best record and be done with it... with tie-breakers in the formula of course. But you would sure not have the best team every year that way.

This is a point that I see virtually every Bear fan totally ignore in discussions on what to do in the 2024 draft.
If you look at QBs who have developed into highly performing starting QBs, many/most had careers where they were allowed to take a backup/development role for at least 1 or 2 seasons.
Love sat behind Rogers for 3 years. Rogers sat behind Favre for 3 years. Mahomes sat behind Smith at KC. Brady sat behind Bledsoe at NE.
I know there have been rookies that you can throw right in, and they will develop. But we have also seen a lot more QBs needing time to develop.

At one point the 2020 SB champ Bucs were 7-5... to ur point

I mean first off you are learning a new offense. You have to know protection and where to roll it. You have to know all the routes of the WR,TE, RB. Learning the check down. Learning defenses. How to spot disguises. Once you get all that down you need to be able to throw in rhythm. I'm trying to imagine not fully knowing all that and be able to be effective.... Going back to Love in his second year he had to start a game on national TV against KC when Rodgers had covid. He looked completely lost. The rookie will be given time to develop but you have to wonder if he'll be shot mentally before he gets the chance.
