And I am saying THIS individual player made a big improvement from 2022 to 2023. He has been on upward trajectory.
It does sound like he's improving and can play well. I'm fine if the Bears sign him as a FA. I wouldn't trade Fields for him.
I think I would do it. He’s proven he can play at a high level in NFL. The only college player I’d feel as good about getting from Fields is Powers-Johnson.
But so had Fields. Why do you want him but not Fields? Not to be a smart ass or anything. But what's the difference?
I DO want Fields. I was asking a hypothetical about alternatives uses of Fields ASSUMING he drafts Williams.
I know. It's just that your post was pointing out a guy that had a big improvement so it was a good lead in. I didn't say you didn't want Fields. Was just comparing wanting a guy that had improved to not wanting another guy that had also improved.
You are off the hook. Not that you ever on it though....

There are at least 3 guys around here who say Fields has not improved much. I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder, and I hope this doesn’t cause MP or motm to post Fields stats for the 100th time.

your comment applies to JABF, not me.
It is. We all have our own analysis off of what we see. You can't fault anyone for their opinion.

From his public comments, I think Warren truly does want to keep Fields and is not just blowing smoke. Others inside Halas Hall may disagree. We will never know, because they will all hold hands and leap together so far as we will ever see publicly.

+1 And it must be a pretty scary situation on one level. They have the opportunity to do something epic good here... something that hasn't happened since Sid Luckman was drafted in the 1939 draft, that was 85 years ago. Think of the magnitude of the moment here. If they get this wrong and the guy they reject goes on to be a star NFL quarterback - for another team other than the Bears - can you imagine how that would dog you? Somehow it feels a lot more epic than the Mahomes whiff and passing on Stroud. And what if Fields is let go and HE goes on to be a star QB for another team for the next decade or so? (don't say it can't happen... this is the Bears where epic mistakes and bad things happen).
Get this right and you are revered here in Chicago - and with Bears fans worldwide - forever. Get it wrong and, well it isn't a "good thing" to have happen for sure :-)

The thing is, JABF, that is it epic either way as long as they get the QB right. If JF is not the guy, we have both the 1st and 9th pick and a trade for JF. It will be epic to get a franchise QB (assuming that we pick the right one.... oh, and don't ruin him after we get him) and get another WR weapon (I hope) along with a C and DE (and please 3T) in the rest of the draft and FA. That's epic.
If they decide that Fields is the guy, what we could do with a 1st trade down (maybe two mini trade downs) would almost take care of all the major team needs in one year plus have crazy good trade capital next year. That's also epic.
The problem is that you need to get the QB right in order to pick the right branch. And did I mention that it's epic how badly we have done with that decision for decades? We are in a SWEET position. Yet I still do not think we will get it right. We never do. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I just can't help thinking it will go down like that. Again.

If they keep Fields and draft Harrison, I can live with it, because that’s what I wanted. I can’t blame Poles for doing what I wanted!
But if the Bears become the Dallas Cowboys with Williams, and Fields wins a Super Bowl with the Falcons, that’s the scenario I worry about.
I have been looking at some mocks by reputable sources . The best center you are likely to get at #75 is probably Van Pram. You OK with that? Powers-Johnson is going first round, and your guy probably 2-3. Knowing Poles, if he can get a second round pick for Fields, I bet he uses it for a safety instead of a center.
Van Pram is my #1 favorite center in this year's draft. Yes, I'm "more than okay" with that, David.
Just for fun, I ran a poll on the Seahawks forum asking who is the best center in this draft. 26 votes so far and Powers-Johnson has 65% of the votes. He has 17 votes and Van Pran has 3. Frazier has zero.
