Cush is a beast, and if im Poles he is my no.1 FA signing
Assuming Poles drafts Williams, would you rather trade Fields straight up for Cushenberry or trade him to Falcons for a second round pick? Remember Falcons draft #8 and Bears #9. Factor that into your calculation!

I'm torn. The frustrating thing is that this is a 3rd round pick who has never been a Pro Bowl level player. The other guy we are discussing as a veteran C free agent signing is an undrafted guy (never really been much good as a pass protector). I keep thinking why can't WE draft a guy (at least) this good? Especially in a year where there are 4 guys (probably even 5 guys) who would be better, and on rookie contracts. I totally "get it" that you overpay for what you get in FA. It's just the cost of doing business. But it does frustrate me.
Just use your draft picks and draft a C, right? This shouldn't be that tough. LOL, I would keep Fields. Do a tiny trade down and still draft Marvin Harrison Jr. - and at #9 get a stud edge rusher - and with the 2nd round pick we would get with that tiny trade down at #1 I'd get an absolute stud C in this draft... maybe even the TOP center in this draft. But, I get it. The Bears will want the new toy at QB1.

You did not answer my question about the alternatives with Fields: trade straight up for Cushenberry or trade to Falcons for a second round pick?
Compare Cushenberry’s production in 2022 to 2023. It was his breakout year. He could be Pro Bowl by 2024. After all, you’re the guy always saying OL gets better with experience.

Players don't always get better with experience but yes they can get better. It depends upon the individual player. At least that's my 2-cents worth on that issue.

And I am saying THIS individual player made a big improvement from 2022 to 2023. He has been on upward trajectory.

But so had Fields. Why do you want him but not Fields? Not to be a smart ass or anything. But what's the difference?

It does sound like he's improving and can play well. I'm fine if the Bears sign him as a FA. I wouldn't trade Fields for him.
