This is preliminary but here goes.
There's a few options for a C in FA. The Bears may not want to pair a rookie C with a rookie QB and opt for a vet instead. I agree there's no stars in this group especially with the Miami guy injured.
In the draft, JPJ and Frazier look like the early leaders there. JPJ is a big ass dude and I think a lot of teams are gonna look at him as a G that could also play C. Right now, it looks like he's gonna go late-1st/early-2nd. Reminds me of Cody Mauch last yr wo ended up getting picked in the 2nd IIRC.
Frazier looks like more of a pure C to me and he will probably go 2nd round, maybe linger to early 3rd.
Keep in mind we haven't hit the Combine or pro days yet so these projections may shift.
Rappoport's piece last week about the Bears needing "a historic offer" to move off the #1 pick and a willingness to listen to offers for Fields seemed like a Ryan Poles intentional leak to me. He's putting the word out there hoping to get max value for JF1 and those discussions tend to heat up during the Combine. And I think the pick(s) they can get for Fields will determine a lot of what they do at C.
Bears desperately need to use #9 on a WR. Velus is a proven bust and Tyler Scott didn't look much better in year 1. Bears have to get a good young WR on the roster to pair with Moore. They have missed at the position for so long.
+1 to all of that.
Also, on a positive note, the Bears will have the resources (between the draft and FA) to fix the OL and upgrade the WR room. I 100% believe they will get that done this year. It will be the foundation for the team to truly improve this year and get the new QB1 started off on the right foot & support him so he can be successful here. Yes, there are other holes to fill, and I realize that. But the OL and WR units are key to this new QB's success and really for Poles/Eberflus to survive here. JMO.
