+1 I thought about how ironic that would be too, if Fields followed Trubs to Pittsburgh. And I take Kevin Williams' comment with a grain of salt. If they are planning on trading Fields it makes sense to talk well of him.
Yes, I am not surprised that Poles, Warren, Flus would say positive things about Fields. But “I am glad he’s a Chicago Bear” and “He’s going to continually improve” raises the question “Why then trade him and pass over Harrison, unless Poles really is blown away with Williams?”
Everything is gamesmanship at this point. So much of what is said has an agenda behind it. Warren wants to do anything he can to boost Field's value so a team understands they can't do a "chump change" deal on the cheap for Fields if they want him. Warren is setting the stage for "Hey, if you want this dude you're gonna have to compensate us well for him." That's my take on it. Don't believe anything you hear at this time of year. LOL, I could see Warren crying in his beer saying how Fields is the salt of the earth and he loves him like his own child... while all he wants is the best trade deal he can get from the guy who wants to take his child :-)
I don't think teams believe any of this stuff. But it's the dance they do this time of year... deception.
That’s all wonderful if Williams is Mahomes 2.0. That’s far from guaranteed. I could be wrong, too, about Fields and my plan. I really don’t care which route Poles takes, if we’re Super Bowl ready by 2025. Both could work. Both could fail.
What's better for long term success. Being one and done in the Super Bowl and winning just one isn't success in my book. Going for multiple runs is what we should truly want. I'm not asking for a Mahomes 2.0. I take an Allen or Burrow. Even an Herbert who will be doing good under Jim Harbaugh.
Super teams rarely work in the modern NFL.
We seen that with the 49ers, Eagles, Seahawks.
The last Super Team that won was the Rams. Look at them since their Super Bowl win. No where close to the top.
I don't see Fields as a Tier 1 QB. At best he can be a respectable Tier 2. Is that what we truly want? Just average?
As I told you before, I am happy with one more Super Bowl before I’m dead, which, at my age, could be sooner rather than later. And I don’t care what tier QB wins the game.

I get that. I just thought Warren’s statements endorsing Fields went way beyond anything Poles or Flus said in their press conference.

A phrase I've been seeing with some frequency on social media lately to describe this part of the off-season is the "lying season". None of the teams will say anything that will let others know anything about who they like, who they don't want, who they would like to trade away if the price is right, etc.
I think Warren is a skilled poker player. Once he is in the game, you will never know what he is thinking.
While I am sure that he, Poles and Flus have a game plan as to what they do if they stay at #1 and take a player and plans for the next most likely 6 or 7 alternatives. They also have a game plan for trading Fields and taking a QB (and sub plans for different QBs). The one they execute could depend on what they get offered at the last minute.

You might be ok with that but the majority of Bear fans rather us having multiple winning seasons and possible multiple rings. I even be ok with just one ring and having the next Aaron Rodgers here destroying the Packers for 15 years.
I'm tired of seeing the 1-2 year super team window then regressing to a bottom tier team for 5-10 years.
2006 Bears? Super team with an awful QB. We lost to the 30th rank Colts defense... 2010 Bears? Most balance team but again an awful QB 2018 Bears? Super defensive team lead by a Tier 3 QB.
You put 2018 Deshaun Watson on that Bear 2018 team and that's a Super Bowl win. Building around an average to below average QB won't win you rings unless you're extremely lucky.

Free agency starts in one month, so if the plan is to trade Fields, the other teams will want the deal settled before March 13. The longer you wait, you risk shrinking the pool of potential buyers. For example, the Derek Carr deal was done on March 6 last year.

They will be talking up Fields right up until the moment if and when he is traded. They have every incentive to do so.

I’m sick of the Fields debate. I think he would perform a lot better with 2-3 Pro Bowl caliber WRs instead of one, a stud center instead of Patrick, and a COMPETENT offensive coordinator instead of Getsy. We may never know. In any case, everyone here is locked into their position. Dead horse.

The good news is that now we can just watch and see what actually happens. Then we all can react at that point. For now there really isn't anything more to say about it all.
