And really, the Combine doesn't do much to define how players will actually perform in real games in the NFL. It's good for affording teams the opportunity to interact with players in interviews. Do I really care how high or far a center can jump or 40 yard dash times in shorts in a highly controlled environment? No, I care much more about watching real game speed, quickness, technique and power in real games these guys performed in.
I agree the tape and interviews are most important. But bench press, jumping, and drills show the guy’s upper body strength, leg power, and agility. That’s why they do them.
+1 I am really liking Zach Frazier from West Virginia in this draft. He reminds me so much of Olin Kreutz. Like Olin, he was a 4-time state wrestling champion (lean and mean dude at 285 pounds back then and 314 now), and he has incredible hand fighting skills and body control. Dude is an absolute animal fighting in the trenches. He is athletic enough to really shine in our outside zone blocking schemes. He is also VERY much like Olin Kreutz size wise... same height but heavier at 314 pounds. His arms are longer than Olin's but still not too long (LOL, I know Weneedmorelinemen will mark him down for that). He is smart (football IQ smart) and blocks well in both run and pass blocking (some of these guys are better at one than the other... but this dude balls at both). Think of him as a center OL equivalent of Jenkins as far as having a beast-mode attitude. In one game they needed a first down and the WV player got stopped - but this dude just picked him up like a rag doll and ran with the player for a first down. I absolutely LOVE this guy for the Bears and we should be able to get him in the 2nd round.
We can get C in FA imo, and draft other one in 3 rd round. Go for pricier positions in draft
I am with JABF on this. I don’t want to just grab a guy like Kramer in third round, and Lorin Cox says that once Poles pays Johnson, there won’t be much to spend on free agents. Powers-Johnson is probably going first round for a reason. He’s looking like a plug-and-play solid starter. That’s what we finally need at center. Get the problem fixed. Stop dinking around looking for a lucky, cheap solution.
Let's cool our jets on that for a minute. Remember last year when AA suddenly became "a 1st rounder"? He ended up going in the 4th.
JPJ is a good prospect. But Cs don't get drafted Day1 very often and he has only 1 year of starting experience. My guess is he will end up being a Day2 guy.

I'd add that this upcoming draft seems to have 3 or 4 centers who look really good... there just isn't one guy that's on a tier by himself this year. It sure looks like a good year to draft one of these C's. Better than last year's class.

Here's a bit of film on him. He needs to (like Brax) add some strength at the NFL level... but he's plenty strong for a rookie. I think this guy may ultimately end up being the best OC in this draft. I'm thinking he's a guy along the lines of Kreutz and Jay Hilgenberg in that he will be one of the best in the NFL for many years. Outside of adding another WR in this draft to pair with DJ, I feel like this guy would be the greatest gift we could give to our offense. He is a multiplier type guy who would make that entire IOL better. In fact I could see the Bears going into that 2025 season as a top-3 to top-5 offensive line in the entire NFL. This is the guy I want.

He looks like he moves well, so might be a good fit for the Bears blocking scheme. Problem is, he might be gone before the third round, and so will Powers-Johnson. If Poles gets a second round pick for Fields, we might need to use it for a center.

Just saw a mock where we keep the first pick. Don't take a QB. Don't take WR. We take LT Joe Alt> Ya gotta love these guys sitting at their keyboards, taking mushrooms and coming up with this stuff. And then idiots read it (as proven by me)

Poles is keeping folks guessing this year for sure. I'm thinking more and more though, that we'll deal that 1st pick (Caleb) to the Commanders. But I have no clue as to what else will happen from there.

He only does that if he likes Maye or Fields at QB. If he keeps Fields, it would be CRIMINAL to take anyone but Harrison at #2. But that won’t happen.

Well, we don't know though. I would keep Fields and draft MHJ and the best DL guy we can get at #9. But if we do draft a QB, I am leaning more towards Maye than Williams. I just feel like Maye is the better QB1 at the NFL level. But hey, if the Bears see Caleb as the guy, then go ahead and draft him. Can't wait to watch it all happen.
