So if you replaced Love with Fields. Would they win? I don't think they would.
Fields is a subpar 2.5k QB while Love is a 4k QB.
My opinion? No. Love is a better QB than Fields is right now. Maybe forever. He certainly has the confidence. And it's kind of an unfair question to begin with because Love is the only guy that that the timing down with those players. But I'll venture this. Put Fields behind that OL, and we would score a LOT more.
You put Love on this team and we're in the playoffs.

I think maybe a better way to put it is that Fields has passed for 2.5k yards and Love has passed for 4k. That does not mean that is what they are. Put Love behind our line, let Getsy call the plays and give him our WRs. I don't think he will see 4k. JMO
I see Love getting 3-3.5k with this team. We would of been in the playoffs.
I agree. I understand the position that we should move on from Fields because we have the 1st pick and when will we have it again? But if we didn't have the 1st pick, I would definitely be in the "give Fields more time" camp. To see his failings and performance and put it all on him is just so simplistic in my view also. You have to look at the causes or you will never fix the results of those factors, and the results seem to be the only things some people see. The results happen because of lots of factors. Of cours, the QB himself is a part of that. But you have to find and address all of those factors. I am not qualified to do that. My football knowledge (the kind you need to see and fix this kind of stuff) is just not there. Hell, the execs and coaches on the Bears staff for years have not been able to do it. It is not easy. But I know Fields is not the only problem. As a matter of fact, I am still not convinced that he is a part of the problem, He may be a part of the solution and we just have to fix the problem parts. I just don't know. As I have said before, I can make an argument for both sides. But I do know we have a play calling, offensive scheming problem, an offensive line problem and a problem with our passing game. And I also know all of those affect the QB. So I can't say how good or bad our QB is until that stuff is addressed - at least to some degree. I have seen some real brilliance on the QBs part, so I hesitate to throw him out. But as I type this, I also know that it has all been said before. And I also know that arguments will be set forth that will cause all this stuff to be typed again.
That's a great way to put it. I mentioned in the other post that it's time for me to pipe down and let it all go. I have really struggled with this but it is counter-productive to be going on and on about it. We all know how everyone feels about it all and nobody is going to change their minds at this point - and that's okay. To everyone here I'm sorry I didn't let this Fields thing go weeks ago. I promise to move on now
I feel the very same JABF. Whatever that's going to be will be done. It will either move us towards keeping Fields or replacing him. In time, some of these answers about Fields might be clarified. Whatever they do, most of us will get behind. But I agree that we are all just going around in circles. No onw will change their minds and we all know how everyone feels. We just don't know which position will get us closer to a super bowl capable team.
I agree. But it is such an "apples to oranges" thing to compare because of the disparity in the coaching/players/play-calling/game-planning on the two teams. It is such a "meatball thing" to just over-simplify and say "Fields sucks" because he should overcome all obstacles and perform in spite of the steaming pile of crap offense here in Chicago. LOL, it's like they just sprinkle Fields with some of that leftover Mike Tice pixie dust and fairy tales happen. I find it stunning that someone can follow the NFL (especially the modern NFL) and not grasp the fact that the QB is one dude of 11 out there. The coaching, play-calling, game-plans and yes, the other 10 dudes out there on offense matter. It is a TEAM sport. We have no clue what we have in Fields right now -and that should piss off all Bears fans because the franchise has (once again) failed to build an offense that can allow a QB1 to develop here. Green Bay? They get it. They take a lower first round draft pick in Aaron Rodger and develop a Hall of Fame player. After having done it already with Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre (a 2nd round draft pick guy) - and now they have another late first round dude in Love... he looks like he will be another home run hit for Green Bay. The meatball Bears fans say it's all just luck and if we can only draft another kid WE will have Hall of Famers here too. LOLOLOL. It doesn't work that way. Never has. Never will.
riczaj01 called this right a long time ago... and most of us did not agree with him at the time... but if you want Fields to succeed here you pull out all of the stops to upgrade that O roster. And you need solid coaching. We have neither... and we haven't in quite awhile. Until we do there isn't snowball's chance in hell that any QB will be good here. Hasn't happened. Won't happen. Period.
You can add Harrison, a good center, a competent OC, and Fields won’t play any better or, at most, just a LITTLE better but not a LOT better. That’s what MP believes. Both propositions are counterfactual at the moment.
We may never draft #1 again in our lifetime, but most SB QBs are not drafted #1. Most #1 drafted QBs never win a Super Bowl. You need a super TEAM, and if you have one, you can win with Purdy (Mr. Irrelevant) at QB. The 49ers might prove it.
You are correct.
I don't believe Fields will improve enough even if you gave him the stuff we all agree the Bears need to do regardless of who the 2024 QB is. I have seen nothing from him to indicate his ceiling is an elite or near-elite passer. I think after 40 games we should have seen evidence of that.
Explain to me please what SPECIFIC EVIDENCE you have seen that tells you otherwise. I want to hear it. I already know the answer--there is none. It's just rosy projections only.
You are just gonna speculate of how many more pass yards and TDs he will have with so-and-so WR and so-and-so OC, etc., etc. And all this magic is gonna happen somehow with the Bears still having a top-5 year in rushing yards. Not that increased pass attempts won't cannibalize rush yards, right?
Fields has only had one 300 yard game. He's only had a handful of 250+. His completion rate (60.3) is barely above the bare minimum of 60% most people cite as a floor. He's never truly elevated anyone around him and you could argue he de-elevated Mooney. He has consistently failed to drag his team to a win (or even a tie) in the 4th Q. In fact, he's been a turnover machine late in the game and that doesn't even account for 2 4th Q fumbles he had vs Minnesota that he was lucky to have recovered.
His career best passer rating in a season (86.3) is only a hair better than Mitch's career number (85.5) and Trubisky posted 2 seasons with a rating >90. Fields has zero. His total yards actually went down from 2022 to 2023, despite having a top-10 WR and a top-10 TE.
Explain to me why you think this guy is ever gonna be better than a mid-range passer at best. And I don't even want to settle for a mid-range passer "you can win with". I want a top-7 passer you winbecause of.
I am done with Fields. I want better.
PS: Oh and BTW, we have plenty of cap, 2 1sts, and will prob get a 2nd for Fields. We can get a top-notch WR prospect, a C, and an OC without having to keep Fields. We can easily do all that without having to waste another year with a passer who needs a 50% jump to reach where he should be. We don't have to settle. Baker freakin Mayfield threw for 4000 yards for crying out loud. And he's on what...his 4th team?

That’s possible but I’d let the playoffs play out before using Purdy as an example. He gift wrapped two pick sixes that were dropped last night. GB played a C- game and still nearly beat him.
I agree. Purdy wasn't that good last night. He got away with a bunch of bad throws that should have been picked.

Regardless of QB, there is no reason, cap fa or draft capital, that stops them from building a competent O around that qb. Rookie, Fields, some other vet brought in, Bagent. doesn't matter. Whoever is the ab should have Moore + 2 capable WR's around him + an strong interior OL that isn't stripped down b/c of an injury.

We can easily get a stud WR prospect at #9. Heck, we should be able to do that on a trade-down from #9 while netting an extra pick. This draft class is stacked so double up on WR in the mid-rounds (we should have 4 3rd-4th round picks after Cunningham gets hired). I'd draft a receiving TE in there too.
We can easily add a quality C upgrade in FA. Yeah, I'd draft an iOL as well round 2-4 as Davis had a disappointing year.
We are already upgrading at OC. The RBs are fine. The OTs are fine.
You need 2 WRs, a TE, and 1-2 iOLs. That's easily doable with what we have in cap and picks this offseason.

RB's are NOT fine. RB's were a joke, both hurt and inability to gain yards. Monty damn near had more yards and td's then all 3 rb's for the Bears. They need to dip back into the draft, remove Forman and put Herbert were he belongs, a backup. Even if he was capable of doing the things you need a starter to do, he isn't capable of handing the beating.

Huh?
Herbert is a good back, man. He had a bad injury (on a terrible pass by Fields), missed 6 weeks, and then took several more to look right.
RoJo is a solid #2 short yardage guy. The can re-sign Foreman or draft someone in the 6th to be the #3.
RBs aren't the issue with the O. Its the passing O that sucks. Besides, RBs aren't a place to spend much capital.

Played 12 games this year, 13 last year guess Fields got him hurt last year to? What will be the excuse next year when he plays around 12 again? Not even 150 carries(both years) and injuries pop up 600 yards and 2 td's. That is not starting material, that is backup material, and it's boarderline backup material. D'onta played 9 games not even 120 carries. Again not starting material.
Maybe Roschon can be that guy, but the team trusted him in 15 games w/81 carries. This isn't a WR or TE, RB is the easiest position to translate from college to the pro's. Need to bring in someone else b/c you cannot roll these 3 back and expect much better.
