Well, after watching the game tonight, I feel better about both Fields and the team. What Green Bay did to the 49ers really stunned me. I know GB is good. Really good. But their OL is just amazing. The D was super stout and of course Love was Love. If they played the 49ers like they did, we have nothing to be embarrassed about given where we are, our OL, our OC, etc.

So if you replaced Love with Fields. Would they win? I don't think they would.

Fields is a subpar 2.5k QB while Love is a 4k QB.

Really? I feel worse.

Green Bay nearly beat the best team in the NFC on the road with a QB in his first year starting. For me, that only highlights how far behind we are and how close we are to being "owned" again for another 15 years. Love is gonna get better, guys. He's had < 20 starts so far and has already won a playoff game. LaFleur is a star offensive coach too and he & Love are going to be formidable going forward. They look legit.

What do we have in response? We had a crappy OC who got fired and we have the 4th best QB in the division who's nearing the end of his rookie contract. That's not much.

Ryan Poles needs to make a move or get buried in the NFC basement again for a long time. I'm sure he knows that. He's gotta get better, way better, at QB and it needs to happen now. Take a swing at a homerun.

We'd score a lot more with a QB with a rating over 85 too.

We need several upgrades on offense.

You're in the Flus-ian "we're close!" camp. He was saying that all season.

I'm in the you're-not-making-the-playoffs-much-with-the-worst-QB-in-the-division camp. There's nothing encouraging to me about that until it changes.

I think that's the case. And there's no guarantees in the NFL one way or the other.

I agree. But it is such an "apples to oranges" thing to compare because of the disparity in the coaching/players/play-calling/game-planning on the two teams. It is such a "meatball thing" to just over-simplify and say "Fields sucks" because he should overcome all obstacles and perform in spite of the steaming pile of crap offense here in Chicago. LOL, it's like they just sprinkle Fields with some of that leftover Mike Tice pixie dust and fairy tales happen. I find it stunning that someone can follow the NFL (especially the modern NFL) and not grasp the fact that the QB is one dude of 11 out there. The coaching, play-calling, game-plans and yes, the other 10 dudes out there on offense matter. It is a TEAM sport. We have no clue what we have in Fields right now -and that should piss off all Bears fans because the franchise has (once again) failed to build an offense that can allow a QB1 to develop here. Green Bay? They get it. They take a lower first round draft pick in Aaron Rodger and develop a Hall of Fame player. After having done it already with Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre (a 2nd round draft pick guy) - and now they have another late first round dude in Love... he looks like he will be another home run hit for Green Bay. The meatball Bears fans say it's all just luck and if we can only draft another kid WE will have Hall of Famers here too. LOLOLOL. It doesn't work that way. Never has. Never will.

riczaj01 called this right a long time ago... and most of us did not agree with him at the time... but if you want Fields to succeed here you pull out all of the stops to upgrade that O roster. And you need solid coaching. We have neither... and we haven't in quite awhile. Until we do there isn't snowball's chance in hell that any QB will be good here. Hasn't happened. Won't happen. Period.

You can add Harrison, a good center, a competent OC, and Fields won’t play any better or, at most, just a LITTLE better but not a LOT better. That’s what MP believes. Both propositions are counterfactual at the moment.

We may never draft #1 again in our lifetime, but most SB QBs are not drafted #1. Most #1 drafted QBs never win a Super Bowl. You need a super TEAM, and if you have one, you can win with Purdy (Mr. Irrelevant) at QB. The 49ers might prove it.
