I've been a big fan of Bill Belichick and believe he would have been a good head coach, even if he had not had Tom Brady. But Brady put him over the top as a great coach. But in recent years his teams suck. The Patriots were WORSE than the Bears this season - and that is with Belichick having full control over that team with GM powers. The results are a team dying on the vine now. The guy should just retire and enjoy the rest of his life. But regardless I sure as heck would have been disappointed if the Bears had hired him... it would have been so "Bears-like" to hire the guy because of what he once was - and we were stuck with the guy. And the fanbase here wants an O head coach, and Belichick is a D guy - who without a Hall of Fame QB doesn't do so hot.

From what I've heard he also wants to bring Patricia, McDaniels, and Judge with him in addition to a lot of roster control. No dice on that one for every team with an opening.

Bill Belichick is definitely a great coach from the past, but do you really think Bill Belichick is a good coach now? I'm not so sure. He looked so tired and worn out in recent years. And without Tom Brady his teams looked bad.

Guy was a hardcore worker, but his time has passed. Nobody could keep the intensity for ages.

I think we are witnessing the "passing of the old guard" now with Belichick and Pete Carroll. Andy Reid is still doing well but that's because he has Patrick Mahomes in his prime right now. It would be like Belichick having Tom Brady in his prime... that alone sustains a lot of winning. But I expect Andy to be retired soon too. Time to let the next generation of head coaches have their chance at success. There are some young HC's now coming in who will have some mighty big shoes to fill.

I've always liked the guy's personality too. He seems pretty humble about it all. I also feel bad about how two of his kids turned out. He has five children. One overdosed and died. The other one is in prison for a DUI crash that severely crippled a 5 year old girl.

Barely lost

With Colin Kaepernick at QB and facing Flacco who was absolutely ON FIRE that postseason. Doesn't diminish at all what he has accomplished. He also reached the NFCCG with Alex Smith. He didn't exactly have premier QBs to work with and still made deep runs.

Bears passing on Harbaugh -- and don't kid yourself, that's what they did -- will end up being a poor decision. I'm sure Poles stuck up for his buddy Flus and George was too cheap to fork over the extra money Harbaugh would cost. Flus satisfies the 2 key elements of the McCaskey coaching search history--he won't rock the boat and he's cheap.
