I agree, and of course only success this club ever had in SB era, with coaches Ditka and Ryan, only solidifies that love for gentleman coaches. Oh, wait
Love Ditka but truth be told he was not a very good head coach (I am being kind there because he was a bad coach). He was given an obscene level of talent and the 1985 team won in spite of him - not because of him. Ultimately he lost his team when his own players turned on him. He ended up in New Orleans and just crippled that franchise. That era was all about the player talent level - and a great DC (and Ed Hughes was a solid OC). Ditka was just a caricature dude.
Thing is with Harbaugh. He has the highest win percentage of any active HC.
We have seen Harbaugh take a team and bring them all the way multiple times.

I wasn't commenting on Harbaugh but Ditka. Again, love the guy as a "character" from the past. He wasn't a very good head coach. But, talking about Harbaugh I agree with you that he has done a lot of winning. But the Harbaugh ship has sailed and the Bears have chosen a different coach. I am just going to watch what happens now. We could be pleasantly surprised and I hope so.

The only thing that would be more disappointing not going after Harbaugh is keeping a mediocre QB and trying to build a super team around him.
I really hope Bears ownership takes their hand off the ball.

There are a number of decisions being made this year that are critical in importance for the future of the franchise. It will pretty much define the team for the next 3 to 5 years, and maybe beyond that. Let's just hope the Bears make the best decisions and the team finally gets on an upward trajectory. If the Detroit Lions can turn that mess around then there is hope for the Bears too I think. For us fans it is fun to play at this guessing what "we" would do with all of these decisions (and we can't even begin to agree, even on this one messageboard). I think we just need to watch how it all turns out. It could be that the team is making the right decisions. Or not. But we don't really know until the games are played, right?
Regarding the QB1 issue, I think you will probably see the team draft a QB in this draft, and it will probably be Caleb Williams.
I'm just glad that Harbaugh at least isn't in our conference.
Gotta agree with you on that one. Could you imagine having him not only come to our conference but come to, say the Vikes? I would hate that. I wish the guy luck with the Chargers, I really do. I enjoyed watching his teams at Michigan.
I don't think he was ever an option, for a variety of reasons.
Then ownership failed this franchise and its fans.
Harbaugh is better than anything the Bears had in a long time.
I saw that tweet...but until theres an actual source attached to it its meaningless. I've made my concerns about Harbaugh known. Its not like every other team was hot after the guy...don't you think theres a reason for that? Hell...they don't even have a GM yet in LA! That has dysfunction written all over it.

All the way where? He's been to one Super Bowl and lost.

I agree that he is better than anyone we have had in a long time. And is probably better than who we have now. But I think other issues that would change the dynamics would be affected. But if the only purpose of the team is supposed to be to win the SB, ypu have to put getting the resources to do that above the team culture. Management is trying to do both. I get it. I would have gone for Harbaugh and tried my best with Kevin to make sure that the culture stayed the same. But some have said Kevin himself didn't get along with Harbaugh. So as it is with humankind. Ego and self usually trump what should be the main objective. These are only my own thought on this. I have no way of knowing how off I am on this stuff. But that's my gut feeling take.
Another thing is that while I do feel they are going to pick a QB, that could be mistaken and they want to keep Fields, which would make Harbaughs desire to work with Williams (if true) a strike against him. In the end, what we think or want is all speculation
