Harrison will have 1,400 yards his second year, if not sooner. Fields will have three reliable targets. Bears will be top-5 in total offense. He will not be an exclusively pocket passer.
But he's missing his reliable targets now. What makes you think adding more is going to make any substantial difference?
MHJ is a really polished route runner. That would basically be a waste since Fields has problems throwing with anticipation. Fields is at is generally better when throwing off schedule.
Moore has 92 receptions and 1,300 yards. Kmet has 70 receptions and 700 yards. Harrison is better than either of them. The Bears will have plenty of passing offense. I have ZERO doubt about that so long as they all stay healthy.
I don't get why everyone thinks that bringing in MHJ is suddenly going to make Fields' passing yards go up. His problem is he doesn't see the field well and often fails to see guys who are open. It's not his receivers not being open. He also often makes his throws late. So it's not going to matter if MHJ is wide open if Fields doesn't see him or lets the ball go late and it gets broken up.
I mean do you really think MHJ is going to add another 1000 yards to the stats? Where would these throws even come from? The criticism of Getsy is that he doesn't use Fields' legs enough. So are we going to try make him a pocket passer now? The thing he struggles with the most?
I don't get why you don't get why MHJ wouldn't help his passing numbers. Getsy keeps asking these guys to win on their own...except NONE OF THEM CAN except for DJ. MHJ can win on his own. He's a certified DUDE. Name me the certified dudes on the receiving depth chart who's first name isn't DJ. Fields doesn't "fail to see guys who are open"...guys aren't routinely getting open. Its a fact. Go watch the ALL 22 and get back to me if you think I'm wrong.
The criticism with Getsy is that he doesn't accentuate Fields strengths enough, and he calls shit games. I'll say it again...last week was the FIRST TIME I saw guys routinely schemed open. I've been watching the ALL 22 every week...it took till week 17 for me to see it more than 1 or 2 times.

LMAO!!!!!! What reliable targets?
Go watch the ALL 22 of Fields throwing to Moore and Kmet and tell me again he has problems throwing with anticipation. He has problems throwing with anticipation to JAGS.

He still needs more consistency. Yes, I know there have been drops, but we need better than 60% completion rate. Some of that is on the receivers, but some is on Fields.
How could you know any of it David? A month or so ago you was through with Justin, 100%. Saying there is no better QB in draft is like saying there is no better WR than Moore (way more probable than Fields), or even worse, that there is no better DT than Dexter. Im 99% sure there is at least one QB, in this draft, (much) better than Justin. We have number one pick, its Poles job to find it.
Fields has shown improvement the last half of the season. Could there be a QB in this draft who is better? Could be. And I could win the lottery this month and be rich too. It is a gamble drafting a QB1. On the other hand I have seen with my own eyes the improvement with Fields - even having to overcome Luke Getsy's play calling and offense. Fields floor is pretty darned good right now. With a new OC and a solid offensive line (center) and Marvin Harrison Jr. - we are "set" on offense. Could some draftee be good? Sure. But that is more of a risk going that route and also it weakens our draft for other needed positions on offense (forget Marvin Harrison if you draft Caleb).
But he hasn't. That's the problem. People around him have played better which has elevated some of his numbers. But he continues to have a couple great plays a game and then a bunch of inconsistent play the rest. He's also benefitted heavily from a surging defense that's been giving him back the ball over and over.
People continue to act like he's going to get significantly better but it's been 3 years and there is little evidence that that is going to happen. The likelihood he's going to get better is very small at this point.

I just posted this but I'll post it again. It's a good summation of Fields' issues. They even specifically talk about his throws to Moore and Kmet who are often forced to make tougher catches than they have to because Fields isn't putting it where he needs to. This is not some outlier opinion. This a well known problem for those who are watching him play. It's pretty much plain as day, so I can only speculate on what your looking at. www.youtube.com/live/85CAkhi5_R0?si=kBL0Lg-lWdHuLR0v&t=5603

Personally, I like Fields ability to place the long ball WHEN HE HAS TIME. This is two faceted. Better protection, and the game needs to slow down more for him. He needs to use his time to process better. That is what I don't know if he will do or not. I also think he does not throw with anticipation very well. I don't know if this can be developed and to what extent. I think Bagent is better than Fields at this. However, I saw Bagent enter as a pretty (seemingly) confident QB to playing less like one before his time was up. We have seen that with almost every new Bears QB. I don't see that with Fields. His mental toughness seems to be really high. It's his ability to process quickly and be willing to throw with anticipation that I don't see. With Kmet and Moore, he should be able to do that.

Exactly my thinking! Those are his only flaws, but they are sometimes real big ones, change the course of the game! Also, his mental stability seems to evaporate in 4th q, not a small issue either. Maybe same psychological help is in order. Btw - great to see you here!

I understand where you are coming from on this and you could be right and I could be wrong. Time will tell. But I do believe with a legit NFL coach calling plays and game planning better - along with better talent on offense, that Fields will be fine here. I do believe that he will be a top-5 QB in the NFL on any team that provides him decent receivers, offensive line and coaches. I definitely understand that others do not believe this, and that's okay. Hey, we're fans and we are okay if we see things differently (that's half the fun of this messageboard in that we can all put in our 2-cents worth).
For the record, historically, I have been wrong about these type things more often than I have been right. LOL, so I could be dead wrong, again. And that's okay too. I'm not trying to impress you guys with how smart I am. :-)

i tend to believe the same. The thing that keeps recurring in my mind is - can the right coaches help his mental process quicken to be able to evaluate the field faster? Can it move him to change from a mindset of seeing the target open up to believing that he will be open and delivering to a spot? Those things are ingrained but I believe repetition and success can help ease him away from those things. Fields is the most talented QB we have had in forever. And he HAS improved. Can he take the next steps which he should have been doing by now? I still believe he can. But his "cheap" window is past. But Bradys "cheap" window passed long ago and teams still won with him. If he develops to what I think his potential is, we can still build a team around him, IMO. Do we bet our shot at a new QB? I honestly don't know
