And for what its worth...EVERY GM makes mistakes...big ones at that. None of them are perfect and always make the right moves or only make small mistakes. Expecting otherwise is foolish.
+1,000 to that. And I would add that it would be tragic to ride out the first couple of "learning curve years" with Poles and THEN part ways with him. Right now the Bears are positioned to experience the return on that learning curve investment in this very young GM.
Depends, sometimes you got to cut the finger off to save the hand. If Poles refuses to fire his "friend" in the offseason. He needs to go.

Thats assuming Warren wants to fire Flus. We don't know that...we don't know anything about what they're planning to do or what they think.

I'd point out that it would suck to intentionally cut off your finger and find out you made a mistake. Poles hasn't given any indication that he is going to refuse to do his job. None. That's just a straw man argument.

Poles needs to utilize FA better and stop panic buying during the trade deadline. We've seen that with Claypool and Sweat. Luckily Sweat is working out for us so far but it does suck losing high 2nd round players on a cheap rookie deal. Draft picks do matter. It allows us to have cheap young players who have a chance of becoming a good/great player. Ryan Pace sent us back giving up 3 first round picks from his time here with the Bears.
If Flus is truly gone after this season. Poles better not take any input on who to draft from a guy who's scheme doesn't fit the modern NFL anymore.

It's hard to utilize FA better when it has been documented that some players don't want to play in Chicago. You can't force a player to play.
Everything I have read indicates he's the real deal.
He's cleaning house on the coaching staff (thank God).
And that's probably not good news for Justin Fields. A new HC is gonna want a new QB.
Maybe. Justin Fields has shown enough and has more than enough tools that an incoming coach might look at him and the ability to add impact players right away with the draft and free agency and say "I am pretty sure I can win right away with this guy if we add MHjr and X,Y, Z players and that at the least earns me a contract extension"...
As for Warren and questions as to whether he's in charge...I don't know where people get the idea that George is bossing around GM's or presidents. I don't think he knows any better so he stays out of their way...which is part of the problem because previous to this he's hired some bad football people.
Couple things:
First off, I doubt George is "bossing anyone around" as you say. But there has been interference or unnecessary influence from above before. For instance, after that ridiculously stupid decision to keep Nagy (and Pace) another wasted season, George and Teddy formed a committee to jumpstart the HC search process the following year. Poles was handed some names they liked. Even if it was absolutely nothing beyond that, it was still inappropriate. There's an implication there even if Poles had a "free choice".
He needs to stay 100% out. That's why you have a GM and a Prez of Football Ops. Just sign the checks and collect the dividends.
Which brings me to the new HC I hope we are getting. I really really hope that Warren or Poles or whoever isn't predicating hiring or not hiring someone based on Fields. Don't force a QB on a HC who doesn't want him. We have done that and it results in problems.
If Jim Harbaugh is truly interested and he wants Fields to be his QB, then yeah he gets him. If Jim Harbaugh is truly interested and he wants to draft someone, then yeah sorry Justin but you're getting traded.

Yeah it sucks but if Sweat works out (and I think its highly likely he will), it's a trivial cost. We forget that most 2nd rounders don't end up getting 2nd contracts. I do agree the cost was high for someone who was about to hit FA in 1/2 a season but: A) the draft looks weak this year for high end edge prospects and B) we were really desperate. I mean, we had a big fat NOTHING before him.

Those are good points regarding George. As for Harbaugh...I'll take us back to a previous conversation about a potential disconnect between Poles and Warren regarding Flus. If you think the QB Harbaugh is a bum...then I'm not so sure I'm handing him all the keys...maybe just one key.
Warren will not want to manage in chaos, no Mgr does. Thus I expect he and Poles to come to agreement on future direction. If not Poles will be gone too. Who convinces who may be debatable but in the end I expect common agreement. Arguments can be made from many angles on future direction.

But why were we desperate not once but twice in a position of need? Use FA to your advantage. We put a ton of money into a positional group that doesn't make as much of an impact anymore (LB) then ignore other positions. I'm just happy Sweat is working out for us unlike Claypool. Some want to praise poles on landing DJ Moore but remember it took Lovie Smith's team getting a last minute win to get us that #1 overall pick. Would the panthers still trade us DJ Moore for the 2nd overall pick? Doubt it.
Still 1st and 2nd round picks should be important. Those are your foundation picks going forward. 4 years of cheap deals for a chance of a star.
