What I can judge is that the players he drafted in 2022 haven’t shown much progress in 2023. That’s a major reason why the Bears still suck,
I think we'll have a clearer picture at the end of this season. At least it should be clearer than what we have right now.
I reserve the right to change my mind, if the Bears get rolling like the Lions did last year. If the team is healthy the last few games, it would give us a good baseline as to what we need off-season. These two LIONS games, in particular, are the FINAL EXAM for Fields. If he plays well in those games, I would NOT draft a quarterback. Why? Because then I believe that adding Harrison, Jr. and a good center should enable the Bears to beat their defense. Use the other first round pick for an edge rusher to complement Sweat.

+1,000 That's exactly how I see it too, David. It isn't over until the fat lady sings at the end of the season. Maybe we move on from Fields but we don't know how this will end yet. Drafting a QB is never a sure thing. Last night as I was watching the #1 overall pick of the entire draft perform (he didn't look any better than the undrafted D2 kid, Tyson Bagent to me), it just brought back 60+ years of memories of how these guys bust all the time at the NFL level. Not saying Young will be one of them. Just saying it is never a "sure thing" to draft a QB. I so remember the "generational talent" and "sure thing" talent of JaMarcus Russell when he was drafted as the #1 overall pick of the draft. Like so many of these busts he was nothing at the NFL level. Just another bust QB on the heap of busted QBs over the past many decades. Even Heisman Trophy winning QBs are in that scrap pile of failed QBs. People want to "crown" this Caleb Williams as the latest anointed "can't miss" QB. Good luck with that. I've watched him play. He could be great. He could "not be" great. He could even bust. For every Patrick Mahomes there is a Mitchell Trubisky (drafted higher than Mahomes too). That's how this thing works at the NFL level with QBs.

Unless you are Tampa Bay and can trade for Tom Brady, you sometimes have to get into the lottery. Grossman, McNoun, Mirer, Trubisky. Bad memories! Maybe next time will be the charm. I bet Panthers would have taken Stroud just as Bears would have taken Mahomes.

So if Eberflus is safe, but he has to fire Getsy, who would he bring in to run the current offense? I can't imagine the conditions to stay is keeping Getsy, but I also can't imagine he'd install a new offense, in his make it or break it year.

It's a tough situation. Listening to JT O'Sullivan this season it sure sounds like the offense scheme is really bad. If the scheme itself is fatally flawed, and the OC calling the plays is as bad as what we see - I don't see how you CAN bring this back for another failed season. It would just be crazy to do that. Getsy has to go. And they need to flush his scheme down the toilet too. I've watched JT (and others) do the film breakdowns all season long, and they call it a "high school level" scheme... and a total joke at the NFL level.
And what does this say about Eberflus as a head coach if he's okay with this offense scheme, right? Dude must be REALLY clueless if he signed off on this offense, right? I so "get it" that turnover of coaches is a franchise killer. But do you keep guys who can't coach?
My hope is that Kevin Warren is a sharp football guy who can ruthlessly cut out the rotten parts and (finally) bring in people who know how to coach at the NFL level. It will be (yet another) setback and re-start. I hate that. But to keep failed coaches seems pretty nuts too. I'm not sure what you do with Poles. Maybe he has to go too. I don't know, but hopefully Warren is a sharp guy who DOES know.

I'm just curious if they try and replace Getsy with another packer tree coach? I don't remember what coaching tree he comes from
At least there were some signs of life for the team in this one. The ending was tough to watch. If it were not for those ending minutes of the game I would have been very pleased with the progress the team had made since the beginning of the season. The play calling at the end was bizarre. We need a better offensive scheme in 2024, and some upgrades in players - Marvin Harrison Jr. would be a fantastic addition. We need a center on offense... we haven't had one all year worth anything. That is killing the OL, and did today. Again. But these upgrades are doable in 2024 I think. We need two new coordinators... that should help.
