But do you agree that beating up on weak teams doesn’t prove that Fields is the long-term solution? We have ALREADY seen that. I don’t need to see more of it against teams like Cardinals and Panthers. I want to see him against the LIONS. Even the Saints defense would have been a good test. I am with MP and others at this point on Fields. He just hasn’t shown enough improvement this year to convince me he’s the guy. I agree with Lorin Cox that, unless the Bears are certain about Fields, they should draft a QB.
I do not feel that way about Brax. I am comfortable with him, unless he comes back and plays poorly, especially against bull rushers. I don’t think that will happen.
So we have a half of a season to watch Fields play with a (now) better OL, hopefully a better Getsy calling plays. It "should" be a better opportunity to properly evaluate where Fields is, in his development. Certainly better than the opening games this year that were so bad. Better defense and offense. Hopefully a better Getsy too. But regardless I believe the last half of this season could reveal valuable evidence of where Justin Fields is at on his learning curve - and more evidence helps support making a better decision at the end of the year. So these games matter. At least that's my belief. I am a slow methodical guy. I value being thoughtful when making decisions (at least when time permits). We have the time. Fields is here for the last half of the season. Let's make certain we evaluate all of the evidence and then make an informed decision on him at the end of the season. That just makes sense to me.
Braxton Jones has not proven he's the guy we need at LT. He has shown some promising evidence, along with some bonehead plays too. This last half of the season matters with him also. I want to see evidence of improvement - just like I want to see in Justin Fields - in this last half of the season. JMO.
