I think that is a perfect example of why Fields won't garner 2.
Why? Trey Lance has done absolutely squat in his time in the league. I'd think thats an example of why a guy like Fields, who HAS done some things in this league, would garner a 2.
Fields has actually played and also done squat in his time in the league. GM's aren't giving up a kings ransom for qb's just b/c they went in the first anymore. Lance at least still has, what is he going for him. They'll be wrong but there's at least that. Everyone knows what Fields is, there is no questions, there is no what if. He's a qb that doesn't process and get the ball out and would rather run then throw the ball.
The #1 asset that we (may) have here is President/CEO Kevin Warren. Warren has a rock-solid football reputation. Not as a coach but as a top-level CEO. His resume is stellar as an exec who just "gets things done" - look at what he did for the Big-10. That was stunning... at least I thought so.
Warren is the #1 key to getting a great HC candidate to trust in the Bears franchise and agree to come here to coach. But you are right about the "confidence" angle. There was a time when the Chicago Bears HC job was something looked upon as a sterling opportunity... but no more. Now we are like the old Detroit Lions organization and viewed as a crap franchise. Just a steaming, stinking pile of dog crap that a promising/ascending coaching talent does NOT want to step into.
I think our best asset is Warren. Only he can convince a capable guy to take the job.
I have to disagree with that statement. If I'm an ascending coach I would think the Bears are attractive for a couple of reasons. Depending on what you think of Fields, you have a QB, a WR1, a stable of running backs, some pieces on the o line, a secondary and linebacking corp thats pretty set, and 2 first round picks plus a ton of cap space. If you don't think Fields is the guy, you have a trade chip and two high picks most likely to replace him with.
At the end of the day I don't think this team would be this bad if we just got more than a game and a half of competent offensive play calling. But thats my opinion.
That could be right. In fact I think you are right about the enticement of having a high 1st round pick to bring in your own QB in this draft. But a new guy would want to feel like he will have more time to build a team than what Eberflus did here. 'Flus got 17 games and then after two more he had the city turn on him - and he will be fired at the end of this season if not before.
LOL, I'm just frustrated and angry this week about the whole way the Bears season is playing out. So take anything I post with a grain of salt.
Come on, man. You really think JF isn't more athletically gifted than Mitch, Rosen, and Lance?
It's not even close. Lance was a high school player with one years experience at a tiny college in North Dakota. Rosen was so bad he was flushed out of the NFL before his rookie contract was up. Mitch was so inaccurate he couldn't hit any pass more than 10 air yards that wasn't a stop route. How many times did we see him miss wide open receivers by a mile?
Fields has plenty of flaws no doubt but there's way more to work with there than those guys had.
I don't think he's a better qb then those no. I want my RB, my WR and my DB's and LB's to be more athletically gifted. I want my qb's to be more gifted at being a qb, which means processing the field, reading the def prior to the snap, and then throwing the ball to the right person w/out having to hold onto the ball all day.
The fact that you cannot mention anything qb related, and just "athletically gifted" says it all. You couldn't say he threw the ball better, you couldn't say he read the field better, you couldn't say he had a quicker release or got the ball out quicker.
Fields has plenty of athletic ability, but none that actually pertain to playing QB in the NFL.
Actually you COULD say all those things except the "get the ball out quicker" part...and I'm not so sure about that one...I'm not sure how many games of Josh Rosen you've watched, but I haven't watched enough to know if he gets the ball out quickly or not.

Fields has done squat? You can't be typing that with a straight face.

I think we'd all be fine if we were seeing competent coaching. Hell...we were ok with his first year because the team was competitive but still got the #1 pick. We are not seeing competent coaching right now, for a team with better talent than last years, and that is why Flus won't have more time. Whatever a new coach steps into will be better than what Flus stepped into. That may be unfair to Flus, but he hasn't helped himself at all this season. Getsy may be a fine head coach one day...but he sucks as a play caller right now IMO.
Here's a change I'd like to see actually that might help determine how bad Getsy is. I want to see Kramer play center this week. Those snaps from Whitehair and Patrick were so friggen bad that it threw off the timing on so many plays. Can't be successful when the timing is off from the jump.

Competent coaching. Is that too much to ask? I would even take mediocre at this point. (not really, we've had too much of that too, but it would still be an improvement)
Getsy might be the all-time worst OC ever. How he hasn't been able to get the Centers to snap properly by itself is inexcusable, let alone the playcalling. I lost count of how many bad snaps there were in the game. I should have started counting good snaps. Drinking game tip: never call drink on good snaps, you'll die of thirst. Conversely, never call drink on bad snaps - you'll die of alcohol poisoning.
Yes, give Kramer a shot, can he be worse than Whitehair/Patrick?

Please, tell me what he's done? What run? Even Trubisky had a few good throws and a few good games, that doesn't make you a good qb. Fields hasn't done anything but lose and spend most of his time being terrible at his job. There, I guess I was wrong, he's been bad, that's doing something right?

Coaching is bad, having players that don't know what they are doing is a coaching problem, but is it still, when they just refuse to learn? First play last week, is a perfect example. Bad playcall by the OC, Minny is known for blitzing, and they go no rb in the backfield and 5 on 5 for the OL, no one is there to deal w/that blitzer. It's a terrible call, shouldn't even be in the playbook vs Minny; but the QB has to recognize it, he doesn't. There is no way they didn't have tape on Minny doing this, even if they didn't(they did) he's been in the NFL long enough he should realize what's about to happen. He has 3 choices, audible, call a time out, or get the ball out on his 3rd step. He doesn't do any of those and eats a sack he should have known was coming.
Coaching bad, players bad. Not sure what you can do. That is actually the OC trusting his qb, and his QB not trusting the OC or the players on the field. ESPN Chicago was talking about the play he got hurt on, he held the ball for almost 7 seconds; in the NFL he hasn't learned you cannot hold the ball like this, he hasn't learned this team cannot block like that. He hasn't learned, and he isn't going to. His entire college career has developed this mentality and you aren't fixing it in 3-4 years of the pro's, in fact it's only made him worse.
If you're gonna reset the rookie clock at QB, that other high pick needs to be on offense. A stud WR would be perfect to pair with your new QB though I might be able to be talked into a stud LT too.
Brax may be a future stud LT. Remember you heard it here.
His only weakness last year was the bull rush, and he’s been working hard to fix it.
David, I'd love to see it and that's easily the best case scenario. Cuz getting MHJr with a new QB in the 1st round would be freakin ideal.
It's disappointing he's been hurt so we can't see and evaluate Brax more. Hope he's back soon.
