Waldron & Johnson are OCs so their teams cannot deny requests to interview either for a HC job. And I bet both would love to become HCs with a new high-draft-pick-QB and possibly MHJr to work with.
If Flutsy gets canned (and they will be), you marry Poles, the new coaching staff, and the new QB all tied together and you give them 3 years to get it together. Please, please do NOT do the stupid stuff you did before by sticking a new QB with a coaching staff you fire after his rookie year.
+1,000 It seems so very basic, like football 101 stuff. Yet the Bears have been incapable of grasping this. Let's hope that the new President/CEO Kevin Warren does understand. He needs to sit Poles down and explain the facts of football-life to him. Poles needs to get an offense built here first - complete with a solid franchise QB. Pull out every stop to make that happen. And of course you need a good defense too. But "Job-1" here in Chicago is to (finally) figure it out as far as how to build offense/QB... the centerpiece of a great team.
Well, it is basic 101 kind of stuff.
But...hate to remind you, when I was screaming for a full housecleaning after the 2020 season when it was obvious a new QB was coming (Mitch was a FA and left for Buffalo), lotta people here you included I think wanted to give one more year to Pace/Nagy. They "made the playoffs" and "collaborated well, right?
That's the exact same mistake. Pace drafted a QB to save his own ass, it didn't work, but it stuck a new QB with a regime who didn't draft him a year later. I still have no idea what George and Teddy were thinking there other than they were too cheap to eat the existing contracts.
A) Why is he worth a 2nd? Just saying it doesn't make it true. He is statistically worse than Mitch, who garnered 0, and wouldn't have garnered anything if they had tried. Lance was a bust, no doubt, but b/c he only played 3 games means there still a "ceiling" he can reach. Fields doesn't have one anymore. The book on Fields is out, and it's basically the same as Mitch, he cannot read a defense, he holds the ball to long, and his best option is to be outside the pocket and make something happen w/his legs.
B) There is no difference between cutting someone and letting them become an FA.
WNML made the only valid point, Pace is in Atl, so they might be willing to do something crazy since he drafted him. But I doubt it will be to give up multiple picks for a guy that has shown next to nothing other then against the worst defenses in the league.
For all his issues as a passer, Fields is far more talented than Lance, Mitch, or Josh Rosen. He also still has 2 full years of team control still available which Mitch didn't by the time the Bears flushed him.
If a trade happens, a 2nd is not unreasonable. QBs come at a premium. You may not like it or agree but supply and demand is a real thing. Plus Pace drafted him and is with Atlanta now.
I'm not defending Fields here -- he has failed to develop as a passer like we all hoped. But I do think a different OC could get more out of him than Nagy and Getsy did. He certainly has a higher ceiling than Desmond Ridder
Saying something is true, doesn't make it. What makes him more talented than any of them. It doesn't show on the field, so just saying it won't convince another GM. Best games are not better then theirs, his worst games are worse than theirs, and when he leaves Chicago he'll leave as one of the worst to ever play qb on a team full of shitty qb's in its history. 2 years of control for a shitty qb that your team no longer wants doesn't really mean much.
That is the only valid point, he might say that, but he's not the GM, he's not the one doing the trade, they aren't going to give up multiple picks for a guy who's only good tape is against the worst defenses in the league. He has no upside, his stats/tape is worse Trubisky's, he's not going to get another guaranteed shot at starting unless a team is truly desparate/insane.
My guess is they get a 3rd. And next year when they decide to draft another qb in the top 5, and again ignore the OL, they'll be trading him for cheap in 3yrs also. Team needs to upgrade OT, OG and OC, and hope they all stay healthy. They also need a WR and TE to help Moore and create defensive problems and easy reads for the new qb. btw none of that is happening, one of those top picks is going DT or DE or WR, then the next picks in the 2nd-3rd will go def.
Here's the argument we are gonna be having here all spring (if we end up with 2 high picks):
In addition to QB, do you... A) draft MHJr B) draft a stud LT C) draft a stud edge D) try to trade down again
My early vote is for A though I understand why B is a valid choice. MHJr seems like a blue chip difference-making player who would be hard to pass up.
All that depends on who the HC is, and what they do in FA. If it's still Flus and he still needs his DT to properly run his def, I don't think they do any of the first 3.

Come on, man. You really think JF isn't more athletically gifted than Mitch, Rosen, and Lance?
It's not even close. Lance was a high school player with one years experience at a tiny college in North Dakota. Rosen was so bad he was flushed out of the NFL before his rookie contract was up. Mitch was so inaccurate he couldn't hit any pass more than 10 air yards that wasn't a stop route. How many times did we see him miss wide open receivers by a mile?
Fields has plenty of flaws no doubt but there's way more to work with there than those guys had.

If so, that is reason #834 to fire Flus.
If you're gonna reset the rookie clock at QB, that other high pick needs to be on offense. A stud WR would be perfect to pair with your new QB though I might be able to be talked into a stud LT too.

QB first
then either A or B, I have no preference.
What I think is going to happen? QB @1 and then a trade down for another haul. That means 2rd WR and 2nd LT at min after the QB + more picks (hopefully 1 first following draft and more day 2 picks in this draft and next.)
The most Bears thing to do would be to trade out of #1 again for a vet DT and picks and then using the 1.2 pick for QB#2. The traded for first rounder will be a CB to replace Johnson and then a C and WR in the second, maybe a S.

I don't think he's a better qb then those no. I want my RB, my WR and my DB's and LB's to be more athletically gifted. I want my qb's to be more gifted at being a qb, which means processing the field, reading the def prior to the snap, and then throwing the ball to the right person w/out having to hold onto the ball all day.
The fact that you cannot mention anything qb related, and just "athletically gifted" says it all. You couldn't say he threw the ball better, you couldn't say he read the field better, you couldn't say he had a quicker release or got the ball out quicker.
Fields has plenty of athletic ability, but none that actually pertain to playing QB in the NFL.
You saw Trey Lance get traded for a 4th round pick...right?
I think that is a perfect example of why Fields won't garner 2.
Why? Trey Lance has done absolutely squat in his time in the league. I'd think thats an example of why a guy like Fields, who HAS done some things in this league, would garner a 2.
Well, I can think of reasons why they might prefer another team over the Bears. If this new QB plays like Zach Wilson + Bears defense = new HC suffers in Chicago for 2-3 years and gets fired. It also depends on whether they have any confidence that Poles can do his job.
The #1 asset that we (may) have here is President/CEO Kevin Warren. Warren has a rock-solid football reputation. Not as a coach but as a top-level CEO. His resume is stellar as an exec who just "gets things done" - look at what he did for the Big-10. That was stunning... at least I thought so.
Warren is the #1 key to getting a great HC candidate to trust in the Bears franchise and agree to come here to coach. But you are right about the "confidence" angle. There was a time when the Chicago Bears HC job was something looked upon as a sterling opportunity... but no more. Now we are like the old Detroit Lions organization and viewed as a crap franchise. Just a steaming, stinking pile of dog crap that a promising/ascending coaching talent does NOT want to step into.
I think our best asset is Warren. Only he can convince a capable guy to take the job.
I have to disagree with that statement. If I'm an ascending coach I would think the Bears are attractive for a couple of reasons. Depending on what you think of Fields, you have a QB, a WR1, a stable of running backs, some pieces on the o line, a secondary and linebacking corp thats pretty set, and 2 first round picks plus a ton of cap space. If you don't think Fields is the guy, you have a trade chip and two high picks most likely to replace him with.
At the end of the day I don't think this team would be this bad if we just got more than a game and a half of competent offensive play calling. But thats my opinion.
All that depends on who the HC is, and what they do in FA. If it's still Flus and he still needs his DT to properly run his def, I don't think they do any of the first 3.

Brax may be a future stud LT. Remember you heard it here.
His only weakness last year was the bull rush, and he’s been working hard to fix it.
