Dan's initial quote kind of misrepresents what Fields was saying, but besides that, I don't really think Fields said anything wrong. This is his career, he's got to feel like he's got some control of his fate.
As for his "coaching" comment and receiving too much "data" or info, he's got a point. I liken it to cueing an athlete on their sprint technique. If I give that athlete too many things to think about at one time they are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT going to run a SLOWER time. 100% without a doubt. And they're likely to not achieve many of the things I asked them to think about. Many of the best coaches don't talk often during training. When the athlete is "in it", they kind of have to help themselves, and too much from me could hurt performance more. They have to feel whats wrong and problem solve. Justin is essentially saying that!
Beyond that, sometimes you just have to leave well enough alone. Don't get so caught up in making sure everything is technically perfect if the athlete is getting the job done at a higher level. Tim Jenkins did a great job breaking this down in regards to Fields footwork on the Hoge and Jahns podcast. I recommend everyone give it a listen. What works for one QB doesn't mean it works for EVERY QB.
Thats all fine and true, but did he have to be "honest" in the presser? Couldnt he camouflage, like others cover for him? Media will take it and run with it. And if he was or is a smart guy, shouldnt he have predicted it? I guess he is too busy thinking about which glasses to wear on Sunday.

So Fields is admitting he can't process the info and needs to play street ball is what that sounded like. Bye Justin. That will never work at this level of competition.

Exactly, playing on "instincts" in NFL, sounds bold.

Why...do the coaches camouflage for him? Have they not been open in the things he needs to improve on or doesn't do well? And not for nothing...this is nothing new from Fields. He's always been very open and honest on his play and why he does things...why wouldn't we expect honesty from him on this. And its not like he didn't hold himself responsible either. He shared the blame.
Not sure I get the bolded part of your response.
Overall, I'm not absolving Fields of blame with his play. He needs to be better. But this coaching has been absolutely TERRIBLE. The game planning and play calling is baffling, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what Fields strengths are currently and to lean in to those things.

Except thats not the case at all. If he couldn't process info and didn't know what the defense was presenting he would never be able to check into plays that work...and he's done that multiple times this season. You show me the person on this earth who's never been frozen by TOO MUCH info and I'll show you God himself.
I've mentioned this in my talks with other trainers and students how sometimes when I look for more and more info its caused me to miss out on things or opportunities. Or how having too much data to analyze has actually sometimes made me worse at my job. This is a common thing in every profession out there. Why should sports be any different?

Didn't think Fields said anything wrong. His quote was something along the lines of I don't know, maybe coaching. that isn't throwing the coaches under the bus, that's saying he's not sure but it's possible.
They changed his mechanics/footwork, he and the coaches want him in the pocket more and his receiver's are lining up wrong and running routes incorrectly, its a lot of information for a QB to put together. So the question becomes why didn't they use PS games 1-4 to try and fix any of these issues. Why did they act like their O was a well oiled machine that needed no tuning?
