I've personally come to the conclusion that I am going to try to not get too worked up over anything regarding the Bears the remaining season. It's a game. Enjoy what I can (and I did enjoy that last game immensely) and don't let a bad season get me down. Life on planet earth will go on, even if we have a rough season.
I do enjoy sharing the ride with you folks here though. It's my small-group therapy for sure. Anyone can be a Pats fan, or a Broncos fan - or any of those fan-easy teams. Gotta be one tough and crazy guy to be a lifer Bears fan... with emphasis on the "crazy" :-)
No matter how bad our beloved Bears are, always remember things could be worse. Then again, is there really such a big difference between the Bears and Browns?
Let's just hope Soldier Field doesn't become another 'Factory of Sadness'. We deserve better.
Yeah...there is....you've actually seen your team play in and win a super bowl...they never have.
This is where we find out if we have a solid GM or another bum. This is where the GM has to earn his salary, grow some balls, and make some "big boy" management decisions.
It's all on Ryan Pace here. Let's see what he does at the end of this season.
Why is it on Pace when Phillips and McCaskeys are against it and don't allow it? I'm sure Pace wouldn't hesitate to fire Fox after this year. No GM would Keep a Coach like that after getting worse.
What if Fangio is the guy that wants to go? What if there is a Josh McDaniels waiting to become HC and he brings Fangio with him? That's just an example and it would give Fangio a bit more power - working for a HC that is offensiv minded.
Yep, and personally I'm choosing to get saner by the moment. I've had it up to my higher than I would like it to be forehead with all this trauma drama so I can't wait for January 2nd so I can ask Pace, Teddy Bears, and GMC "Watcha gonna do now"?
My allegiance to all things Bears has developed a slow leak and I may choose not to patch it. As long as the McCaskeys feel they can continue to run their team into the shit for grass SF turf they can do it without one more long time fan. I've had it.
I am going to do just like you, Soul, and see what they do in the off-season. It is a hyper-emotional year for everyone. I am thankful that the people on this messageboard are pretty patient with one another as we go through this painful season. Sometimes some good can come out of a bad experience. Who knows, maybe we will see a much much better season next year. I admire how the Cubs fans stuck it out. We can too.
Despite being a former Southsider I've never not been a Cubs fan as well as a Sox fan. Both are my hometown teams. But simply being a fan doesn't entail undying support for a very poorly run organization as the Cubs were for many years and as the Bears have been as well. Or at least around my house it doesn't.
If we want change then the fans need to speak with a singular voice and do it it with their wallets and their feet. Ten or twelve thousand no-shows every game might get someones attention. Teddy Bears sponsors may buy up tickets but it takes actual butts in seat to pay for parking, concessions, and souvenirs. And when the official "dog and pony show" parties they organize start looking like a Latinos for Trump rally maybe they'll begin to get the point.
They can be just as stupid and selfish as they want about not selling the team and running it as they like but I have a choice not to support that and I'm a very short step away from executing it. I've had enough of their hollow and/or broken promises to last me for quite awhile.

Pace is the GM. These are his players. These are his coaches. This is his team. He is the GM. If for any reason he doesn't have GM powers, and is just a guy sitting in an office with a "title" of GM with zero power - then that is still on him - because he will be judged by what this team does under his leadership. He may never get another GM opportunity in his life if he fails here (e.g. Jerry Angelo and Phil Emery are prime examples of this). That is why I don't believe he's a figurehead.
His entire future. His career in "the business" is on the line here.
Pace does NOT strike me as a stupid man. He understands what is at stake here for him personally. He would not allow himself to be the idiot "fall guy" and blindly let Phillips or Virginia McCaskey (or any of the McCaskeys) to shuffle him aside and make GM decisions while he twiddles his thumbs in an empty office.
Make no mistake. This is Pace's team. These are his players that he drafted or signed through FA. These are his coaches. Nobody has presented evidence to the contrary. And I challenge ANYONE to produce EVIDENCE - factual evidence and not hearsay - to the contrary.

Everyone is different when it comes to being sports fans. And that is okay. Personally, I like following the Bears, even though they make me crazy angry at times, and pretty darned sad other times. But I do try to calm down and remind myself this is a game. It's not solving world hunger or curing cancer. It's a game.
Prior to 1985 we had a long stretch of bad Bears play too. People revere Papa Bear, and rightfully so, but he ALSO had a long stretch there where the team was epic bad. You couldn't blame the McCaskey's back then, because the team was owned by Halas and he had 100% full control over everything. LOL, I remember those years because I was a fan back then too.
But then in the mid-80s we had some good teams. The 1985 team was very special, obviously. I think what made 1985 all the more special, was that we fans had suffered decades of painful seasons prior to that moment in Bears history. Really, until that time, the Bears had sunk to being a joke in the NFL (other than their leather helmet days of championships prior to the Super Bowl era).
I am going to stick it out. And I am not going to let a "game" ruin my happiness. I will enjoy any good times, and survive the bad times. But I will always be a Bears fan. LOL, that means I'm not very bright :-)
