I'd be fine with that. But we need to get him some serious help on the offense side of the ball.
I suggested the possibility of a guy like Norv Turner if we dump Cutler. He runs a balanced offense that's a fit for our personnel and he's handled and developed younger QBs. If Cutler stays maybe the decision is different.
That'd actually be a solid idea. He's no HC(as seen in SD) but he is a very good OC, give him the pieces that the Bears have, and a young QB and you should see things shine.

Soul's plan is the best and most plausible I've seen. Fox, Logg, and Cutler have to go. Promote Fangio (who's done a solid job with an injury-riddled and inexperienced D) and bring in NT as the OC. Maybe just maybe we can can back to respectable (8-8) next season and contend for the playoffs in 2018. Between FA and the draft the Bears need in order:
Offense QB RT TE
Defense CB (maybe 2, move Fuller to FS this offseason) DE

My only knock on Turner is that it feels like a retread instead of finding the next rising star. On the other hand, a rising star might get picked off to be a HC where as Turner should have that out of his system by now.
Both our fan bases are going through the same thing.. We also have squarely moved beyond denial and into stage two of grieving; ANGER
Your GM/HC are to arrogant. They think that all, or enough of their picks will pan out that they don't need to dip into FA and grab help for your key pieces. 4mil for Forte would have created a 2 headed rb monster and relieved a ton of pressure off your QB and off Cheeseburger Eddy while also creating a layer incase he got injured(which he did). Instead you got James Starks for 1 mil less; well played GB well played. Legit WR would have also.
Your Def is a sieve, Telling me a guy like Danny T, or Freeman or Hicks wouldn't have helped at all? Imagine Peppers running behind Hick; or opposite him, who do you double?
Can only hope that they are being properly humbled after 2 very disappointing years.
it kills me, this div 2 years ago was looking at possibly being one of the strongest, and now it's looking like the bottom of the barrel of the entire NFL.
Packers fans would love to see TT "retire" after this season and Elliot Wolf (son of HOF Ron Wolf) get the nod as GM. He would then probably remove McCarthy. As for Danny T, the last thing this team needs is more injury plagued players.

It was somewhat based on thinking that any major move like firing Fox will likely come with some compromises due to costs if nothing else. If we'd like to retain Fangio IMHO the best way to do it is to give him first right of refusal on the HC job. He's not one of Fox's long time cronies and I don't see any buddy, buddy relationship between the two that would preclude it. So, we make the offer.
That leaves the DC spot open but Ed Donatell was once the Packers DC so we already have a guy whose worked at that pay grade before and he and Fangio are very close. I suspect as a result it would still be Fangio's defense and like with Lovie where he would spend most of his time. So we retain continuity on defense and we don't end up replacing the defensive staff. Clint Hurtt might be another possibility as a DC but he has less experience than Donatell.
Any OC we hire must have experience both as a play caller and a guy whose worked with and been able to develop young QBs. Norv Turner has that, he favors the type of balanced attack we need to run in Chicago, and the best part is he's available and with recent experience as an OC in the NFCN. I think it's also possible he might keep quite a few of the current offensive staff intact and we do have some good offensive coaches like CuJo (WR) and Drayton (RB). IMHO it's most of the guys Fox brought with him from Denver I feel should be replaced including the STeams coordinator Jeff Rodgers.
If we can pull this off it would seem to me to be the path that causes the least amount of disruption in the rebuilding process and also the most acceptable from an economic point of view since it assumes the majority of the coaching staff will remain intact.
Look at that Soul and I agree, Trump won the election and the Cubs won the WS; the world really is coming to an end.
I'm just an arm chair ownerbut if I can see this and the McCaskys can't then they truly should sell the team. Anybody here got $1.3 bil so we can make 'em and offer? I swear we could run it by committee better than Teddy Bear can.

Point well taken BB but availability also comes into play and in the past when we have taken shots at some rising stars we've either been refused the right or talk with them or shot down. There's also what I feel should be the initial limitation on the deal.
The offer should be for the final two years of Fox's deal. Any extensions beyond that will have to be earned. The current staff including Fangio are under contract through 2018 anyway so those we don't fire are somewhat compelled to stay and I feel most will.
But then we have to find an OC who'll accept a two year deal and that may limit us somewhat right there. A rising star working for someone else may not want to take that risk whereas Turner is looking for his next job and we have one that fits him.
In the short run his experience should be invaluable because we can't afford another OC who learning as he goes like Loggains. He's as inconsistent as Jay. That's the part we need to move on from not his talent but I'm not sure even Turner can fix that.
