I always hear Pace, but what if it's Fox? Pace tried to get Mariota and Wentz. Those 2 are good Young QBs that were ready. Maybe they are looking at Watson who is a similar prospect. Maybe they aren't. Maybe Fox will get fired and the next HC will have some influence on the decsionmaking. Maybe it's Fox who insists on playing with Hoyer/Shaw/6th round pick. We don't know. As far as rumors go, we know Pace wants a new QB and he wants his guy, not just one.
I think it would be smart to trade Cutler if we can get a pick in the range of #1 - #45 Overall or even more. Other than that, I'd just Keep him and let him Play next year. This will only happen if Fox is gone. There is no Chance Fox wants to Keep Cutty.
Shaw is a Wildcard here, we don't know if they will Keep him or even plan to Play him. Finding a Wilson or even better is next to impossible. I know Media doesn't really like Cutler, but whenever you hear Players talking about Cutler, they like him and Point out that he is a leader and good prepared. He's much like Fox, good from Monday to Saturday and has Problems on Sunday.
A lot depends upon how Cutler performs the 2nd half of this season. He could still be here next year. But I don't think he'll last more than that.
I almost think it will depend more on Fox than Jays performance. I can see Jay performing well and Fox doing a Forte on him. Of course if Jay does badly, that makes it easy for Fox.
It depends upon both. This season is a "prove it" year for players, coaches - and even the GM. At the end of this season, I hope the Bears take a thoughtful approach evaluating EVERYTHING and making sound decisions to correct areas that need improvement. We are 8 games into a season that has seen monumental change, and complicated by many injuries to key players. Some fans want "surgery with an ax" here, with firing and cutting of coaches and players - some are done with Pace too. I would rather see the organization thoughtfully address the areas of need at the end of the season when the entire "body of work" is in the books for 2016. Be thoughtful. Don't pull a "Cleveland Browns" and crap the bed here. This is more than just a "Cutler thing" and more of an organizational thing. I am EXTREMELY curious about how the latter half of this season unfolds for the coaches and players. We may be surprised in a good or bad way. I'm certainly not bored at this point.
For some perspective let's look at the two drafts we traded our first rounders to get Cutler. I know people still grumble about the trade but look what our choices would have been had we used one of those picks on a QB. Do you see anyone in there other than maybe Stafford, or Bradford even, that you would like as a QB? And both of those guys were no. 1 picks.

I want a great QB too but finding one is not just knowing when to pull the trigger but also a fair amount of luck. We can certainly draft some QBs and hope for the best, but you're going to want to hold on to Cutler as long as possible because the odds are heavily stacked against finding someone in the draft better then him whatever his faults.
Regardless whether Pace has an eye for talent for talent or not, that QB may end up getting drafted by someone else before he can do anything. Sometimes there are no good options.
I agree that sometimes there are no good options. It's never a sure thing drafting any position, and certainly QB is tough. But I figure you don't wait until you are in a crisis to HAVE to replace Cutler. Dak Prescott looks pretty darned good... 4th rounder last draft. Garoppolo, late 2nd round. Right this minute I'm watching 3rd rounder, Russell Wilson put on a clinic on Monday Night Football.
These guys are getting drafted by other teams. Why not us? Why? I don't want to wait until Cutty is on an aluminum walker before we decide to draft a QB.
There is one very important thing to remember when looking at those QBs, look at the teams they were drafted by. They did not go to bad teams.
Dak was drafted as a backup to a team with the best OL in the NFL and a great running game. That's like winning the lottery for a QB. Garoppolo was drafted as a back up to the best run team in the NFL. He only had to start a few games in a very QB friendly system. Russell Wilson was drafted as a back up but ended up out performing the starter. He went to a team with the best defense in the NFL and pretty good overall.
As you can see these were all guys that were not drafted to be the starter right away and went to good teams. The top QBs always go to the worst teams and get forced to start right away and usually suck because of it. I'm not saying the Bears shouldn't take a QB with the first pick but I do think it's best not to plan on starting him as a rookie. A rookie generally only does well when the rest of the team is pretty good. Are the Bears good enough to support a rookie yet?

I completely agree. I was about to post something very similar to this. It depends on the QB, the team he goes to, the coach he will be working under and the system the OC has for him. There is SO much that counts when a new QB is put in place. THat is why you want to get him familiar with the team and system for a year if you can.
I am not sure we have a QB friendly HC or OC here. Pretty sure Fox is not, but Loggains might be. I'm just not sure. As far as the rest of the team, I'm actually pretty confident in that. The OL is not bad when healthy and we also have good WRs and RB when healthy. I think the team is fine. The coaching and system for a new QB.... I'm just not qualified enough to intelligently answer that. But I sure will take an SMU shot at it!

I agree with all of that. I'm just frustrated watching these young guns on the other teams having success. But you're right, we are not a good team.
If they go day 2 QB , then my hope is it'll be Baker Mayfield . He's an absolute fb junky who has some Favre in him but also plays with more smarts . I could be wrong , but I believe he'll be one of those gutty QB's who wins alot of games and who's teammates will love him .
The best thing for a rookie QB is to have some time to learn behind a veteran QB and have a good OL, a good running game, a go-to WR and solid defense. It sounds like a lot but it takes a lot to be good.
Why does Cutler have to go though. If they felt they had to start a rookie QB they could still do that and keep Cutler. Just look at what Seattle did not too long ago. The Seahawks paid a bunch of money to get Matt Flynn and ended up starting Wilson over him. Worked out well too.
I just have this feeling that between Cutler and Fox there isn't any relationship left. Fox doesn't want Cutler around and Cutler isn't going to play for Fox if he can help it. This is where Pace earns his money going forward.
Remember I don't know anything about conversations inside Halas Hall. I'm making all this up as I go along.
I thought BIH was the only guy here with an MSU degree.

Just another wanna be
It's a very coveted designation. You don't have to be responsible for what you say.

I think Fox has much more say in how we draft than some will admit.
Shaw can be a great backup in my opinion. At least by his Preseason games in which he looked really good. I don't want him in the starting QB role. I rather draft Mitch Trubisky or Deshaun Watson.
