We won't be able to turn this franchise around as long as Phillips is part of the organization. Not only is he the reason why big name GM candidates didn't want the Bears' job, he's also the one that told Pace to hire Fox (according to reports Pace wanted Bowles).
Last week he gave an interview explaining how he wouldn't count out Cutler staying the starter, proving that he's still involved in player personnel decisions. Didn't George assure us that Phillips would be in charge of business operations and stay out of football? I'm sorry but he's gotta go.

I really get tired of all the manufactured innuendo. Of course they are going to have some big meetings. The Bears are 1-6. Something has to change and they need to explore different options. That doesn't necessarily mean everyone is getting fired.
I'm curious what "Rival executives and coaches have roundly criticized almost everything the Bears have done this year" is. Bennett being traded is the only thing that I'm not sure was the best idea. What other moves were bad moves?

Year after year we seem to have the same problem.
People need to get fired.
Ted Phillips - I think he has a lot more control than most want to give him credit for. John Fox - He isn't the future and what we're seeing from him this year shows us he is cashing it in Dowell Loggains - Was made OC because of Cutler. He's terrible at playcalling and Cutler's future here being in question is going to determined his faith.
Would be nice if we get some winners in here.
What I would like us to do.
Get Mike McCoy when he gets fired from the Chargers and make him our OC. He could help develop our new QB. Buy out Jim Harbaugh and bring him here to show some passion and fire that this team desperately needs Keep Fangio to continue our 3-4 defense build but give him some playmaking secondary players like Eric Berry
Then find someone to replace Ted who isn't allowed to touch the ball side of things.

Thank you. Sanity has returned to the board with this post.

You actually need evidence that Phillips is messing with the team, not just what your gut tells you. From everything I have read or heard Phillips is only the money man. He has no input in the day to day operations. His involvement only extends to selecting the GM.
I'll criticize Loggains when the players start executing the plays more consistently and we have someone other than a journeyman back up playing QB. Until that happens he deserves some time to fix things.
Fox is a "winner" and that is why they brought him in. He's had success with two franchises. You are unlikely to find anyone else available that meets that criteria. Otherwise you will have to go with someone who is an unknown and may very well be a Trestman or McDaniels.
I would be surprised Harbaugh ever coaches pro again. The reason SF dumped him is that his intensity level is too high all the time. It was fine for the first couple years and then it got old. There were reports that even many of the players found it difficult to deal with. That can work in a college environment where you have a constant rotation of players but does not always translate well to the NFL.
I'm also curious why everyone is giving Fangio a pass when no one else gets any. It's not like our defense has been great either.

I'm giving Fangio a pass do to injuries. He is still making defensive player respectable unlike offense. We're still average to even above average in a few of our defense ranks.
Fox is also proven to be very lack luster on the offensive side of the ball and has a strong history of that. When you don't count the years he had with a HoF QB like Manning he was in the late 20's to even 32 at one point. Fox keeps getting outcoached each and every game while also putting in his players rather than the better players.
Are we still pretending Phillips has no role with on field problems? We have changed everything and yet the problem is still there.
“Chris may have scared them a little bit. Chris knows the problems that are within the organization and had ideas on how to clean them up, and I'm hearing that they didn't necessarily like hearing that."
“There were changes in structure that [Ballard] wanted,” a second source familiar with the workings of Halas Hall said. “Those changes and being very forthright with those ideas very well could have turned people off.
Look at the 49ers now vs when Harbaugh was there. He made that team. I could careless how extreme the man is. He has passion and shows it. He can win and has been to the Super Bowl.
Harbaugh is a proven winner and did it with Kap. We have his DC here and you see how he alone improved our defense.
I know that this isn't a popular view but I honestly don't think the Bears should move on from Cutler until they have a solid replacement ready to takeover - and I don't think Hoyer is that. Cutler is a starting NFL calibre quarterback and there aren't enough of those to go round. Bears could be doing a lot worse. I do hope they draft someone this year - but I'd still want Cutler around so whoever is drafted has to win the place and so we know we are getting a genuine improvement.
He is paid about in line with his ability and the only way I think they should get a rid of him is if there is another team with a big need at quarterback but otherwise a good roster so we might get a decent pick back in trade. The only teams I can think of are the the Broncos and may be the Rams.
Having said all that, getting rid of talented players with no back up plan is basically Pace's modus operandi so maybe you are all right.
And this would make the most sense logically but this team has been run so illogically for so long that it's nearly impossible to predict what they'll do especially with a CEO who is convinced promoting his losing "brand" is more important than winning games and owners who have permitted the team to be run this way.
While it's true that Jay's guaranteed money has run out after this season his declining salary makes him one of the better bargains for a starting caliber QB and if the Bears don't think so I believe there are a number of other teams who be happy to have him with his contract or one he may be willing to renegotiate.
I don't know that anyone would pay top dollar in picks for him now. The Rams aren't going anywhere soon and they just spent a top pick on Goff. I also don't think his return to Denver would be well received by fans here and in Semien and Lynch it appears Elway has two young QBs he can win with and a HC who actually can coach QBs.
Following the season the biggest stumbling block to getting fair value for him will be the thought that if the Bears will release him why pay for him and with any other team I would think they would not be that dumb but I've seen them do so many dumb things already for so long it's not much of stretch to see them do that too.
Cutler may never win a SB but then others have who are no better than him and some even worse. The bottom line is he still gives the team the best chance of winning games based on who they have to play QB now so the objective as you say should be to find a better QB and not throw the baby out with the bath water until then.
And playing to lose only to assure themselves of getting a top pick to spend on a QB is just as dumb. Given the overall success rate of highly drafted QB, and then looking at our success rate drafting them would make me hesitant to ever think that would work for us any better than it has in the past. We haven't really drafted a truly great QB since Sid Luckman.
My preference even before they brought in Pace was for the McCaskeys to just sell the franchise to an owner who really understands footabll. But since that won't happen we are stuck with them. Oh well. I give them a big fat MEH.

That article sounds like serious sour grapes and it could be interpreted in many different ways. I'm not high on the McCaskeys either but everything I have heard is they're pretty hands off these days.
Regarding Phillips you need to provide something other than "he's around and there are problems." What is he specifically doing to harm this organization such that it manifests on the field?
