I'll give you all of that Ric but it still won't make Massie a good pass blocker or even adequate in my book. Leno actually did handle Mercilus and Clowney fairly well in the first half but they wore him down later in the game with their rotation. Massie never handled them at all. That was my main critique of the blocking by our OTs.
We'll see, thats by far the best def the Bears will face this year. He's never been a great pass blocker, but I'm not sure that he's bad at it either; and yesterday I don't think is a fair indication. I'll make that decision on him in the next 3 weeks. Definitely not a good start though.
If the Bears didn't want a big DE pass rusher, ala Jones, then yes w/out question Whitney was the best option. Btw, Shea did nothing yesterday, NE will have to get used to that.
I watched for Shea too last night from the stands. I saw him make 2 tackles--both 8 yards behind the LOS. It's hard to believe how many good players we passed on to draft him. It's really hard to NOT get mad thinking about it.

I think the old scout in Emery fell in love with the kid thinking he could use him in the NFL the way he played in college but in order to do that we'd have had to create some kind of special position for him as a rover and Lovie wasn't about to do that so he was misused from the get go.
I have my fears that Floyd will end up being much the same. That he'll never be the impact pass rusher they drafted him to be and eventually he'll be playing all over the place just like he did at Georgia trying to find some use for him.
I just do not like those SEC "Tweener" types who come in with all of these massive physical credentials but never live up to their hype in the NFL because they're to small to be DEs and don't quite fit as dominant pass rushers either. The list of failures is lengthy.

DCs need to get creative because college is gonna keep producing these undersized guys. if you want to draft athletes without a position you should be put on DB scouting duty. maybe you'll find a rb.
run that grits D atlanta did with like 400 dbs and make floyd a SS.

Floyd had at least had a sac, and was close a few other times. I don't think Floyd will be as ineffective as Shea was; maybe not a sack beast but I think he'll be fine.
Dline didnt play as well as I expected. Texans could just run it all day and get 6 yards or so. There was little to no pressure on Osweiler.
Offense was shit only highlight was Sitton Long and Jeffery.
O wasnt shit, in fact they were very solid in the 1st half, if Whitehair didnt snap to his butt it would be even better, and thats just a rookie mistake. Overall D and O were pretty similar, D was just a little bit better. We forget that Texans WRs dropped 1 or 2 TD's (more)
