You could be 100% right. I'm just trying to see the logic for the move to signing Sanchez as the backup for this season. I believe I can follow the logic, and even agree with it. We (me included) are writing off this season as not being good at all. But what if we do end up being pretty decent (maybe even playoff decent... yes we don't see that happening but anything can happen in the NFL) and Glennon goes down to injury for a few games and Trubisky isn't really ready to start yet? Wouldn't it be best to have a veteran who has not only won multiple games at the playoff level, but also a guy who has started 77 games with a winning record - versus a guy who hasn't been much more of a journeyman training camp arm? It could end up being a season-saver - even if the backup can win .500 of the games. I can see the Bears logic here. A guy like Sanchez may be able to keep the season going... rather than tanking the season.
Understand that we are talking backup QB here. It is pretty nice to have a backup who has proven he can win playoff games. We're not going to make him our franchise QB. Just have him as the guy who can keep a season going if needed.
The difference is that Cutler was a starting QB. We're talking backup QB here. This may be shocking to people here, but if Jay were coming here as a new signing as backup (with none of the past baggage/history here) I'd have no problem with Jay as a $1 mil a year backup. There's a difference between that and the 7-year $126 million dollar contract. But one difference between Sanchez and Jay is that Jay has less playoff experience, and less wins at the playoff level than Sanchez (1 measly win for his career).
Again - we are talking backup QBs here. Not franchise QBs. And just for this one season.
Again, I don't see us keeping a 3rd QB who will require much attention/development/snaps in practice. I may be dead wrong but Shaw just doesn't look like a good fit for this year on this team. Sanchez does look like a better fit for this season to me.
Some like to bring up the Sanchez butt fumble like that is something he did all the time. It was one play. I've sure seen worse plays than that (countless times) from Bears QBs over the past decades. LOL, I hope the fans don't turn on Trubisky if he has a stupid bonehead play. Although some fans are hating on him already and he hasn't even taken his first snap for us (the Chicago fans booing him at halftime when he was introduced after his draft by the Bears).
I get it. Fans make up their minds about players (good or bad) and then close their minds. I have never understood that. I'm probably at the other extreme though... I change my mind about players too often. Just as bad, probably.
I'm wrong a lot about this stuff so now watch Sanchez get cut and Shaw stay, and have a great year here. I'd be fine with that too.
