Tony Romo averages 18 mill a year and has a cap number of 24.7 mill next season, going up to 25+ the next season, and higher the season after that. Why do some of you assume he's going to come at some bargain price? Please explain this "logic" to me.
Not sure what a bargain price is, but he won't get someone to take that contract. He will be making less. He has had injuries and honestly, even when healthy was not a killer QB. Some association with Hernandez might have made him one though.
I agree which means he won't get traded, he'll get released, and if he gets released Chicago will be near the bottom of places he wants to go.
I'd take Romo for a 2 year $24 million contract. That would be $12 million each year and I think that's about all he's worth. He would be an alright starter while developing a rookie. I do feel Romo would be a good leader and mentor to a QB, better than what Cutler would be. I'm not paying much more to bring him in though.
That's how I feel about it too. If another team wants to pay more then let them pay more. It may make sense for another team to do this. That doesn't mean it is the best way for the Bears to go right now.

Isn't having Romo as your starter just like having the rookie be the starter? Romo has played in how many games over the past two seasons? He broken his collar bone how many times? He had how many repairs to his back?
Just skip the sign Romo part and start the rookie.

While Romo has been pretty good his whole career I wonder now with the emergence of Dak if much of his success is actually on Garrett and the talent around him. Where Romo often got into trouble was when he would start improvising. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call him a system QB but the almost effortless way Dak has performed in that offense make me curious about what Romo's skill level actually is.
Regardless I don't see why he would even consider Chicago as a destination. Honestly I think he might want to follow Manning's example and head to Denver. If their new QB Lynch is ever going to be something he clearly needs more time on the bench to get his shit together.

Romo has been there for a while and that team has changed a lot. Their OL use to be a weakness not too many years ago. I think we know what Romo is and that's an above average QB. I think he's pretty smart and a good leader. I feel like he's a pretty good teammate.

For a large majority of his career their OL was every bit as bad as the Bears OL w/Cutler; possibly worse. That didn't change until about 2-3 years ago. What made Romo amazing was his ability to escape pressure and still get a pass off.
He did have some late game break downs and screw ups, but those are over emphasized b/c they tended to happen in big games; which btw, is another reason not to have him, the guy just never won big games and tended to cost his team(although some of that is not having a good def either and having to throw more often then not).
He's not HoF'r mind you, but he's clearly played his career at a higher level then Cutler. His comp% was consistently higher then Cutlers as was his TD % and he had a lower int% and he had a higher average ypc also. They both started for their teams about the same time, Romo has 40 more td's and 30 less int's in about 20 more starts.

Unfortunately, I think that says more about Cutler than it does Romo

His OL wasn't that bad. Like Cutler and Rodgers he's a guy who likes to hold the ball. He also had a HOF TE and a wealth of good to very good receivers. He's been with Garrett essentially his entire career. Those aren't small things.
But I'm not going to argue who he is and isn't better than. I just suspect anyone thinking they're going to get similar numbers from him on another team without those advantages is cruising for disappointment.
The hell it wasn't that bad, it was terrible and he was constantly having to escape and run. Dude I lived in Cowboy country, sports talk radio was 90% cowboys, even in the offseason. Their OL was every bit that bad.
You know how many times Garrett was expected to be fired? He wasn't this great O minded guru for many years, it's not until recently that he's been considered safe.
