No...you are incorrect. Scouts were quoted as saying that coming out of college Manning was as good as he was going to get, that there wasn't room for growth from him. Those are direct quotes from scouts. There are facts, and then there is here-say.
Here is a quote from a scout about Rodgers: "I like him. I just don't know if he's maxed out. He's more accurate than (Kyle) Boller but probably not as athletic. He's a better player than Akili Smith. He's more athletic than (Trent) Dilfer was. He's a little more mobile than Joey Harrington. He had to go to a JC because no one would recruit him because they said he was too small. He's been busting his (expletive) his whole life to get to this point. I just don't know how much more he has to give."
Another one said: "(Alex) Smith is the better athlete."
If comparing Alex Smith to Peyton Manning, Smith is the more athletic one. Being more athletic does not mean a better QB though, it just means you may be stronger, faster and more agile. It does not translate to pocket presence, accuracy, reading a defense and calling audibles.
No, that was the comparison between Smith and Rodgers.

Oh. Hmmm... Smith is pretty athletic but Rodgers is pretty damn athletic too. I'm sure Smith can run faster but that might be it.
Manning has had more than enough upside. Rodgers slipped and he did go down the boards deep. I still can see why a Team picked Smith that early remembering back.
It wasn't only about upside why some were picked higher.

Your Point? I still can see why Smith was picked 1st Overall and why some prefered him. Like I said... Not only about upside why he was picked higher. Smith still has had some upside due to being considered as Little more athletic. We all know it turned out to be wrong, but coming out of the draft it was.
You can't ever see what is in a persons heart and so the draft will always be a guessing game. Everyone now has the right answers to the questions. All the right promises. The thing is you can't see inside to see who actually has the will to follow through with the promises.

Yep, this 1000%. 99% of the guys that get drafted have the athletic gifts to get the job done, many don't have the mental attitude and work ethic. My guess would be b/c they have dominated in sports since they were kids and haven't had to work at it. Like the smart kid who didn't have to study in school, and then it got to hard to quick and fell into average grades b/c they never had to learn to study. My middle sister and my son are like that.

You understand you contradict yourself right? You say it wasn't only about upside, but that Smith had more upside. I'm not saying upside was the only factor being considered...but it was the DETERMINING factor for the 9ers picking Smith over Rodgers. Upside will get you fired.
Smith was more ready and has had some more upside... If all things are equal, I take the guy with more Upside and that would be Trubisky.
How was Smith more ready? Please explain. Further...are you implying that Trubisky, with one year as a starter is just as ready as Watson? Are you implying that a guy who has been a heisman finalist, and brought his team to two national championship games, winning one, and has gotten better every year...less ready? If you are...thats laughable.

lol... upside is code for he can't do it yet. Problem is that many people don't get that also means he may never be able to do it.
