Yup, the QB thing is going to be kicked around ad naseum. I can safely predict we will have our regular season QB either from a trade, FA, or the draft. Can get closer than that.
I keep saying this, if Shaw comes back a 100% the Bears may keep Hoyle and or Barkley to compete with Shaw for the starter job.
I know personally that Fox is very high on this kid and thinks he will be a top QB in the NFL, the injury has everyone worried.
He showed some really nice flashes when he got a chance to play in the PS. But that leg injury was gruesome to watch. While I hope he comes back fully recovered from his injury it could be that he isn't the same. We'll have to see.
It would be good to have someone like Shaw (a healthy Shaw) on the roster for next year.
Quick question because I wasn't able to listen to the presser. Did Pace say anything about AJ? What are the odds he's staying in CHI?
stayed away from if he would be back but sounded like he wanted him back. Said he was working hard. He was frustrated and the BEars were frustrated. Could not put a value on him based on time missed but would try to work through it.
I thought he squirmed a bit on the AJ question. He talked about how one of the criteria for evaluating AJ was how often he made it on the field. Pace said he was happy with that and felt like he did a good job preparing his body for the season and keeping it healthy. When a journalist in the room retorted "do you think the PEDS played a part in that" Pace squirmed a bit.
I think the AJ situation is the second most interesting story of the Bear's offseason second only to the QB - until something new and exciting happens over the next 100+ days of no football.

It met my expectations. I think Pace and Fox both presented their case with conviction, both sounded authentic, both acknowledged the shitty season and offered reasons as well as responsibility for it. I thought it was a good press conference and the end result it the expected result. Pace and Fox have another year to turn this thing around.
Pace heaped a ton of responsibility on his own shoulders about getting it right in the personnel department AND having the ability to do that this offseason with a lot of cap room and high draft picks. I think that was the right move.
I think this team has a talent gap that was compounded by the injury situation that resulted in a lack of chemistry between players in many phases of the game and thus losses. I think they explained that well without shirking their own responsibilities.
I imagine 2017 will be better. They might suffer a string of tough injuries again - they might suffer shitty QB play, but they are more experienced in dealing with both of those things and the roster will be better.
Did you guys here what they said about Bullard? He wasn't really a fit for what they wanted to do b/c he didn't do it in college but that he's working on it, and that he has some traits you cannot teach that they like.
btw, they are dogging Fox hard. It was reported earlier this AM that whispers are that Fox was flexing his muscle and getting to do things he shouldn't really be doing in HH, and they are drawing that into why he was at the GM end of year presser, and why he felt to jump in to close out answers that weren't directed at him but Pace.
Sounded like they didn't know what they were going to do about qb but they were going to look at everything from FA, trade to the draft. Something they didn't bring up was bringing back anyone already on the team.
This could be an interesting point. If that means Cutler is not in the plans and they want to address everything that means even the QB situation will be looked at through both the draft and FA, or trade. Interesting times ahead.
Actually Pace did say people already on the team would be factored in. So any of the guys we have on currently are in the mix including Cutler.

Either they held more than one presser and we watched different ones or i missed the parts where Fox took responsibility. Admitedly I missed the first 10-15 minutes, but what I saw was Pace taking responsibility and Fox never going there. Almost seemed to be avoiding it and always blamed injuries and availability. Did anyone else see Fox take responsibility, or am I that subjective. I really try to be balanced and I just didn't see that.
