My biggest worry with the Jimmy G trade isn't what we give up in picks. Its what we give up in cap. If he's a bust and we're paying him franchise money it hurts us.
Have we not learn anything from Texans? Do you give a guy that's a big unknown big money rather than just draft a guy who could potentially give you the same performance better or worse for a lot cheaper price.
Boy I sure do get tired of those who will not bother to read and digest the pages of stuff that has been posted about that. OK, once more and listen.
Osweiler was a UFA so the Texans had to outbid the Broncos for him. Obviously the ended up overpaying for what they got so far. But that scenario can't be used on Garoppolo the same way.
Garoppolo isn't a UFA 'til 2018 so by trading for him the team who acquires him still has him for one year at the price of his rookie deal; $820k plus a $75k workout bonus so $895k total. Far less than we paid Mr. Useless Hoyer. How well he performs as a starter in 2017 will have a lot to do with his price tag so a team who trades for him gets to sample the goods before negotiations for an extension begin.
That has been posted multiple times and no team doesn't have to sign him to a new deal the minute they trade for him. In fact even Garoppolo and his agent know his bargaining power will be much greater if he produces.
If you all think a rookie is so much less expensive then look at this.
Current Contract
Jared Goff signed a 4 year, $27,937,673 contract with the Los Angeles Rams, including a $18,518,308 signing bonus, $27,487,673 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $6,984,418. In 2016, Goff will earn a base salary of $450,000 and a signing bonus of $18,518,308.
That's just shy of $28 mil guaranteed and $7 mil per year and he stared all of 6 games this year, did very poorly in all but one, and lost all 6. Basically he as very Barkley like. Wentz has done slightly better for about the same price but also lost more than he won despite starting out 3-0.
If Garopollo gets Osweiler money, which is only $9 mil more in guaranteed money than Goff, it won't come until he's started for an entire year and has proven to be worth it. If Osweiler doesn't improve he'll never see all $72 mil of that deal. So let's not be comparing one to the other without all of facts.
So "Cheese" what pick do you give up for a one year player? You trade for him but he doesn't have to sign a contract. You FT him? Yes you get him , but for only one year. He's a Matt Flynn, your safe. If not you lose him or bid for him as to signing him. What to do. Still got bail before you have an "ACCIDENT".
Browns have been a dumpster fire for a decades, SF just fired their coach and GM, who do you think are bigger dumpster fires?
Bears are bad, no doubt, but I don't think you could expect them to be as bad as either next year. The far biggest reason the Bears weren't .500 this year is b/c of the injuries. Neither the Browns or SF can say that.
Drink up Ric.....LOL
I didn't think they could be anywhere near this bad this year but now I know that anything is possible. They keep spooning up the crap and you just open up and ask for more. I'm tired of eating their crap so you can have my share brother.....may I be excused from the table.
The hate and denial in this one is so strong I cannot read what he's saying
Another possible but very longshot QB FA might be Kirk Cousins. He choked yesterday but has a good 2 year body of work. I mention him again because he is not exactly running back to endorse the Redskins FO. Read below:
Immediately after Sunday’s season-ending defeat, in which Cousins had a rough outing — throwing for 287 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while getting sacked four times — the quarterback was asked if he wanted to return to the Redskins for a sixth season.
Cousins demurred.
“It’s really not my decision to make,” Cousins said. “They chose to tag me, and the same is true this year. So if they don’t choose to tag me, then I think that question is answered at that point. But right now the ball’s not in my court.”
We can def. do worse than Cutler but we need to move on. He's been here too long and has had too little in terms of results. Find a good trade partner - should be plenty of bidders - and take the risk of a rookie or an FA.
It's really time to move on for the Bears and Cutty.
Watching Packers v Lions right now.
It's just astonishing to witness the difference between Aaron Rodgers and ANY BEARS QB of the last decade.
He's accurate, scrambles for first downs, extends plays, has tremendous pocket awareness, rarely throws an ill-advised pass or INT, almost never fumbles even when pressured, repeatedly draws offside and 12-man penalties, nd simply finds ways to win.
The performance gap is enormous. Even Cutler, the best of the Bears bunch, is not even remotely close.
Remember when various posters actually posted that Hoyer was better than Rogers? Some people should have to have their posts approved by staff. And some people wonder why I'm cranky at times on the board.
Rodgers is one of the greatest football players I have ever watched play. Putting on a clinic tonight. He's going to be the Packer's 4th Hall of Fame quarterback.
4 Hall of Fame QBs.
Herber, Starr, Favre & Rodgers will join them when he retires.
It's Rodgers 7th game in a row without an interception. Bears QBs can't go 7 quarters without at least 1 pick and a sack-fumble.
its a joke. We aren't in the same league and will be in or near the bottom of the division for years to come IMHO.
Watching the game last night, it just drove the point home to me, how priceless and valuable a GREAT quarterback is to a team. Aaron Rodgers put that Packers team on his back and just made amazing play after amazing play. When the team was struggling a month or so ago he told the team that they were going to "run the table" and win every single game the rest of the season. I thought that was crazy talk.
But it wasn't. They ran the table, and won out the season.
That is what a great quarterback can do for you. Watching him play last night drove home the HUGE difference between a wannabee like Cutler and the "real deal" QB like Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers has an incredible football IQ. I hate it, but I can't deny it. The guy is a stinking genius leading a team on drives. And - he has an incredible arm. What a combination. Intelligence AND the cannon arm.
The guy is lethal.
I watched that game last night and wondered what it would feel like to be able to watch a guy like that quarterbacking our team. I've been a Bears fan 55+ years now, and during that time we have never had a guy like that. And no, Jim McMahon wasn't even close to being AR. It goes to show how pitiful we have been at QB when some try to claim Jay is the best QB on the Bears since Sid Luckman. Jay Cutler is crap compared with Aaron Rodgers. AR will be in the Hall of Fame. Cutler? He'll be gone soon. I wish we had never made that trade for him.
