But Flus does have the team on his side for the most part. He is not a hard ass coach. So the players like him. But the players also like to win. And he is not a hard ass coach (disciplinary). So good luck with that.
He does remind me of a poor man's Lovie Smith. Smith was liked by the players. He was easy on them in practices (remember the "Camp Lovie" summer training camps?) and he produced mediocre results for the most part. I'm beginning to think Eberflus has a ceiling that falls short of Lovie Smith - not a horrible coach but the team won't do much with him here. He seems like a perennial bottom half of the NFCN coach, with an occasional one-and-done wild card appearance in the playoffs.
My worry is that the team seems incapable of hiring a good coach. Firing a guy is easy. And I'm fine with firing Eberflus. But it is the hiring part of the equation that the Bears screw up time and again. All we fans can hope for is that thing where a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn... maybe the family will get lucky and luck into a good hire this time.

WOW. A little scary. I was thinking the very thing when I first posted this. Flus seems like a less productive Lovie
I disagree, the man has let his defense lose it for him multiple times at the end of the 4th. A great DC wouldn't do that. How many times has Fangio blew a 4th Q lead as our DC?
Flus was never a good DC. He's horrible against the run, his decision making isn't great.
Agree to disagree on Flus as a DC. Paired with an O-minded HC who is calling plays, I'd be happy to have Flus as my DC.
Regardless, its a moot point cuz that's not gonna happen now. Flus is the HC and he is going to be judged as a HC. IMO, he's hanging by a thread right now there when it comes to 2025.
I noticed a number of key star players (Kmet, Moore, JJ) have all thrown shade on Flus since that loss. That stuff rarely leaks out in public so you know there's some serious issues in the locker room with players expressing their discontent with coaching. They also closed Wednesday's practice.
At this point, we should start asking ourselves if Poles should be added to the list as well. This is his team after all. His coaching staff. His Oline.
He got lucky a few times with a few picks. 2022 1st overall pick, Panthers GM being dumb, Getting #1 overall and #9 overall in the same year.
I look at Flus and compare him to other DC/HC. Lovie Smith era defense was much better and lead us to a Super Bowl visit. Fangio defense was ranked #2 best of the 2010 era behind the 2015 Broncos. I don't see elite defense with Flus. He can pad his stats against trash teams but what happens when he faces the big boys? 1-10 against teams who are .500 or greater.

Most GMs seem to get more than one HC hire. And Poles has had enough successful decisions that he's going to be safe. Yes, he's made some mistakes. All GMs do, especially first time GMs. I would be pretty surprised if he lost his job. I don't see it happening. It would be a mistake.

And that record is almost entirely due to A) his own ineptitude as a gameday coach and B) the offense continuing to suck.
There's very few games we have lost the last 2 years that are due to the defense getting trucked, if any.
So, IMHO talking about "FIRE EVERYBODY!" is just silliness. The problems with this team right now are the same problems it had last season: 1) The offense and OC are still crapping the bed too much. Especially to start games. 2) The HC has blown 4 late games leads and is consistently outclassed as a gameday tactician by his counterpart on the other sideline.
It's the same shit over and over and over. Those are the problems.
Its not the defense Its not the STs Its not the GM

Ryan Poles isn't going anywhere and he shouldn't.
He inherited a horrible situation and had to tear down the team to the studs.
I do not care about Claypool or Velus as it relates to Poles. Every GM has their bad trades or picks.
He's loaded this roster while managing the cap.
His biggest mistake is Eberflus and I have no idea what the thought process there was. Brian Flores was out there after the Dolphins fired him for weird reasons. Flores had success in Miami and he's a defensive guy like Eberflus.

It is so disheartening to see decades of this stuff too ^^^
