I realize I'm in a tiny minority on this, but I would prefer the Bears keep their draft picks and use them wisely to draft our own studs. I find it interesting every year to read about how we "have to get" player "x" who usually was not a high draft pick coming out of college - and is now a high mileage dude with a huge contract burden.
I'm not saying the Bears should never trade for players. I guess I'm saying they need to be very careful about it. And frankly, I would be pissed if they trade for high mileage guys who could drop off the cliff at any time. For an example, I can see giving a high draft pick for a 27 year old Montez Sweat. But an old/aging dude with a fat contract is not something we need right now.
The ideal (I get it, the ideal isn't always possible) is for the Bears to now draft their own guys now that the roster is 95% built. Young ascending studs on rookie deals instead of old/aging guys on fat contracts. Save our cap to re-sign our own studs when they are due for extensions. And please, don't get back into cap hell that Pace had us in. Spend every cap dollar wisely with an eye towards maximum R.O.I.
Just be smart now about trading away draft picks. Be careful.
I don't think that those of us who agree with you are a minority. We just don't keep posing the same message over and over again.

This is the smart way to look at it.
Some thoughts about trading picks for players:
1) Sports media personalities need clicks in order to live. Over the course of a season most sports writers will probably have us "connected" to half the league. 2) Ryan Pace got us into a boatload of trouble with trading up and the Khalil Mack trade wound up not being a good move. Had the Double Doink not happened then things might be different, but it did happen. 3) We need linemen. The OL has 4 legit holes in it and the DL could use another DT or DE if one drops in the first.
So yeah, I'm all for trading for Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett, but at the same time, the rumor / hype mill around trading picks for players is nuts.
Those are not the only players whose names are generating interest in trade discussions, per sources:
Bears G Nate Davis: He has started two games this season and 67 in his career. A
I would trade Nate Davis for the week old Chinese food in the opposing GMs fridge.
The Bears need to organize a trade of Nate Davis to the Browns. There's a defensive lineman there Quinton Jefferson that is kind of buried there and was a former 5th round pick.
Honestly, I don't care what they get. I just want him to have to go to the Browns.

Trade him to the Browns for a ferret for Velus Jones. I've heard that VJ's drops began when Crash the ferret died. Give him the ferret and both the Davis and the VJ problems are solved.
