Well, there is more than one way to look at it. Say I need to build a new fence (or maybe an O-fence), and I rent a post hole digger. I won't have it next year (or maybe even next week), but it dug my holes and allowed me to get that fence started. If it helped the fence (or QB) along, was it money wasted if it did the job I spent money for it to accomplish?
Ahh the luck! I was just happening by you neck of the woods too. If I would have known you were building a fence I would have swung on by and offered my expertise! ( I have none)
Oh well too bad so sad! Maybe next year?
I'm just digging the hole. At least that's what my wife tells me. Oh, wait... we were talking about fences.
Vegas is one of those teams I talked about earlier in this thread. Exactly what Poles should be looking for. They're clearly going nowhere this season and really need to start a total teardown/rebuild. That's why Adams wanted out so bad--he had no future there with no QB. Raiders are also a terribly managed organization so might make some trade blunders.
Poles should be calling them up and asking about Crosby (DE) and Kolton Miller (OT). Both will be into their 30s before Vegas can rebuild so they might be willing to trade for picks. Adding Crosby would make the defense top-3. Adding Miller would immediately upgrade LT.
Would you trade a high-2nd (Carolina pick) for Crosby? Would you trade a mid/late-2nd (our pick) for Miller?
If the Raiders demanded a 1st, I'd politely decline but I think for a 2nd I'd take the deal. Bears are just opening a window to make some runs 2025-27 while on CW's rookie contract.

Crosby was the guy I pounded the table for when I wanted a trade down from #1 to #13 to be the star player along with picks.
I wouldn't trade the 1st, but it would be hard to turn Crosby down for our 2nd. We would have the best D in the league.
With the way the offense is waking up, and Caleb's continued progress, it's possible we're one player away.
Geez. Imagine a DL of Sweat, Dexter and Crosby. LOL.
Play this song for the opposing offense after that trade.

Another team in shambles going to nowheresville are the Brown's. I'd ask about Garret just to do my due diligence. I expect for a multiple year All Pro (with multiple double-digit sacks) the price starts at a 1st & 2nd. I'd try to talk them down to 2 2nd's as my best offer but would try a 2nd/3rd combo.
I realize I'm in a tiny minority on this, but I would prefer the Bears keep their draft picks and use them wisely to draft our own studs. I find it interesting every year to read about how we "have to get" player "x" who usually was not a high draft pick coming out of college - and is now a high mileage dude with a huge contract burden.
I'm not saying the Bears should never trade for players. I guess I'm saying they need to be very careful about it. And frankly, I would be pissed if they trade for high mileage guys who could drop off the cliff at any time. For an example, I can see giving a high draft pick for a 27 year old Montez Sweat. But an old/aging dude with a fat contract is not something we need right now.
The ideal (I get it, the ideal isn't always possible) is for the Bears to now draft their own guys now that the roster is 95% built. Young ascending studs on rookie deals instead of old/aging guys on fat contracts. Save our cap to re-sign our own studs when they are due for extensions. And please, don't get back into cap hell that Pace had us in. Spend every cap dollar wisely with an eye towards maximum R.O.I.
Just be smart now about trading away draft picks. Be careful.
